Does anyone know CPJ's philosophy on players who get injured and do they get their job back when they are healthy again? I know Jaybo played great against a good def, but i still believe Nesbitt is our guy and one who can take this system to a new level. My and dad and co-worker have alrdy sent me text reading "maybe shaw should be starting", IMO you dont lose your job to injury and Josh has done nothing to let CPJ throw in the towel on him. And dont forget, Jaybo ran this offense in HS, safe to say i wasnt scared when Nesbitt went out except thinkin about choice's hammy when he got hurt. Im all for Nesbitt and its good to see he has a good back up who will take over once josh is gone

Nesbitt is far and away better than Shaw. What he lacks in read ability he makes up in athletic ability. Nesbitt is becoming better and better at his reads every week in addition. Nesbitt will have two weeks to recover. I fully expect him to start against Duke if it's just a strained hamstring.

He hasn't shown that on the field yet but I believe he should stay the starter for as long as he does well.

I think the best part of this is that we got TWO great spread-option QBs.

Also, with our system both QBs would likely see a good amount of injury and playing time.

Was a little concerned with Jaybo's arm strength with his passes. Thought he ran a great game with the option, but his passes were not sharp, and were underthrown, especially that deep ball at about 4:30 in the 3rd quarter -- it was significantly underthrown.

Edit: Let me emphasize I am very pleased with Jaybo, and how he ran the game...this was the only thing I left the game saying negative, and this is minor. However, was listening to 790 on the way home -- are they trying to create a QB controversy? I thought Nesbitt was running the offense great in this game before he got injured. It was not like the offense was sputtering and Jaybo came in to save the game. I thought Nesbitt was playing just fine before his injury, and think in no way should he lose his starting job because of the injury.

Completely agree they should be NO controversy, and i think thats were josh takes the spot is that he has an arm and with more of the playbook installed he can be a more proficient passer. The Bebe TD was all Bebe jaybo put it in the area but Bebe made that catch. I love jaybo and was happy to see him do well, but nesbitt is the starter in my mind as stated earlier

Paul Johnson will play whoever's better, regardless of how he finds out. I've never understood the whole "you shouldn't lose your starting job due to an injury" thing...I much prefer the "play the player who gives you the best chance to win" philosophy. Is a coach supposed to put a sub-par player on the field just because he didn't find out about the better, replacement player until after the starter went down? Did Bill Belichick put back in Bledsoe after he was healthy again?

That being said, while I was impressed with Jaybo, I don't think there is much of a contest here. Nesbitt is better at this point. Jaybo could have swayed me if he had connected on his passes, but his throws actually turned out to be worse than Josh's. I don't see any change in who is the starter...but I am very glad to see we have a more than capable backup.

Did anyone listen to 790 on the way home, with the call in show? Was it just me, or were they trying to say Jaybo ran the offense better than Nesbitt? And that Jaybo should be getting more PT--or did I just mishear it? (Had 3 kids in the car, so might have not heard clearly.)

Agree on 790. Just trying to make talk though. Josh is better and will be big time better against the better teams. Jaybo is a great back up and will have his day at GT more than once. Can't wait until Jaybo gets stronger and bigger. He is only 18 but Josh is only 19. Both are going to be just like a fine wine get better with age.

Anyone who thinks that Jaybo is better did not watch the Virginia Tech game. If Jaybo starts that game, we struggle to get 10 points. On the same accord, with a healthy Nesbitt we get in the 50s today.

Jaybo is the better at EXECUTING. Josh is the better ATHLETE.

That's all there is to it. Have to decide what's more important. Can we build someone to execute or can we build an athlete?

Nothing against Jaybo, but there is one factor going against him going forward. Backup quarterbacks who are suddenly put in the game often do well since the defense did not prepare to see them. It is possible, for example, that MSU was geared more for containing the quarterback this game while Jaybo was better at pitching the ball and making MSU pay for the attention they gave the QB.

If Nesbitt does recover before the Duke game, we'll probably see a lot of both of them against both Duke and Gardner-Webb. It will be interesting what happens against Clemson, but IMO we will need Nesbitt's athleticism and arm against Clemson. We probably don't get three turnovers in the first half like we did today.

I'm about done with 790, if dumbass Pollock (yes I meant to spell it that way) and Chuck don't literally eat a f-ng crow on Monday, I might become a 680 listener.

Paul Johnson the decider!

PJ is going to play whoever he thinks gives us the best chance to win. Jaybo did his job today. Josh has played well except for turning the ball over. If he can't correct that problem, Jaybo may be the man. If Josh can learn to hold on to the frickin ball he may get to stay number one.

You can bet your sweet arse on one thing, Paul Johnson don't give a damn what anybody thinks, he is going to do it his way.

Go Jackets!

CPJ will play the best player period.

Even though Shaw looked outstanding running the offense today, Nesbitt looked better for the snaps he was in. Miss St is just really freaking bad.

Bold prediction:

Who wins the starting job by the end of the year will be the QB who turns the ball over the least. That's the only way Shaw leapfrogs Nesbitt, is if Nesbitt keeps putting the ball on the turf.

Did they say we were going to lose? I hadn't heard that.

And we've already offered Jaybo's little brother, who is only a junior in high school, and (supposedly) is even better at running the option.

Just FYI.

We've got our QB situation squared away for the next 6, maybe 7 years. Wow that feels good to type.

Don't forget about the kid from Indianapolis if he ends up signing. I think he's a 6-3 version of Jaybo that has a pretty good arm and a bit more speed.

Assuming we continue to run this system for the next 6-7 years. I am not going to say that CPJ is going to be leaving or anything, but 6-7 years is a long ways away.

Not to mention Jordan Luallen, from Indiana. As good as Jaybo looked today, between Nesbitt and (hopefully) Luallen, he may end up as the backup for his entire career. But if that's the case then we've got a great security blanket in case of emergency.
