CPJ Philosophy Pos. Loss by Injury

No way Jaybo starts over a healthy Josh, BUT Jaybo is running the 3O offense better than Josh as far as the reads and the last second pitch and cutting the ball up the field on the option. We are very lucky to have Jaybo as Josh's backup but I also agree he needs a couple of series per game to stay game sharp, give Josh a well deserved rest and minimize injury potential from fatigue.

When Jaybo is in the game we run pure 3O. When Josh is in the game it looks about 50/50 and don't forget that most of Josh's big runs have been scrambles off the pass plays, not 3O runs. Josh is not cutting it up in the lane on the 3O, he is running sideways when he pitches the ball which is the wrong technique.

Jaybo is an excellent surprise. We also have other great QB talent for this offense in the wings.

Very lucky we have some time for Josh to recover. We'll be fine with Jaybo and cast though.

Anybody notice that Dwyer is a stud? I mean STUD. Glad to see Bebe back.

Bebe back, Bebe back, Bebe back..

Not to mention Jordan Luallen, from Indiana. As good as Jaybo looked today, between Nesbitt and (hopefully) Luallen, he may end up as the backup for his entire career. But if that's the case then we've got a great security blanket in case of emergency.

My point is, if today is the worst we're likely to see from the QB position, then we're set for the next 6 or 7 years. If there's guys who're better, then all the .. erm .. better. But today was plenty good.

1. Nobody knows more about PJ's offense than PJ.

2. Dude has a sick winning percentage.

Therefore, I will not second guess PJ on which QB he happens to have in the game.

Mostly I'm happy to have two guys who can run the offense because QBs get hit a lot in this system. Also it can make a nice change of pace as different QBs excel in different areas.

Further, if Nesbitt has to carry as much as he did against VT in a future game, Jaybo can spell him for a series or two the way one would spell a tailback.

A few things I noticed.. I think the previous poster who stated we would have scored in the 50's with nesbitt was correct. The play in which he hurt his hamstring i believe he would have even scored (atleast sitting in the south endzone it looked that way).

Also, jaybo was great at executing the offense (as said by a previous poster as well). His pitches and reads were crisp and he looked really comfortable for being thrown out there like that against a defense that dwarfed him in size. I think he showed a lot of heart and was willing to take a lot of big hits for yardage.

Someone also mentioned Miss. St. being just plain terrible. I have to disagree after watching them play against auburn. I think they are a good, physical team that was just not prepared. They had some incredible athletes, their wide receivers were huge (did anyone see that incredible one handed catch that was made before our safety knocked it away??) and their defense was pretty physical.. I just think that Croom is a terrible coach and I am shocked that he still hasn't been fired yet.. Their play selection was consistently awful the entire game.

As far as Jaybo replacing Nesbitt, anyone who watched the game could see the physical difference. Nesbitt has the tools to become a really great QB over the next few years. The play he made against boston college where he reversed the field for a big gain to seal the win was evidence of this. While Jaybo appears to be able to give us consistency (which is a great thing that lots of teams dont even have) I don't know if he will ever be able to deliver those jaw dropping plays that a truly special QB does from time to time. Nesbitt could be our next Joe Hamilton over the next few years if we are lucky..

Anyways, nothing that probably hasn't been said, but that was just my take... Great game!

Croom was SEC Coach Of The Year last year, and he said in his press conference that Miss St started practicing against the flexbone in fall drills before the season started.

Miss State were a bunch of jokers who had no freaking idea what the hell they were doing. They gave us a fumble with the worst shotgun snap I've ever seen. They fair caught a kickoff at the 10 yard line. They are a terrible team, clearly in the bottom 3 of the SEC, and would likely be in the bottom 4 of the ACC if they were here.

So basically you're saying they're no good and so we really aren' that good either?

Why do we keep trying to make it a cut and dried thing? Josh is better at running the ball and far better passing. Jaybo is better and quicker at the reads and generally makes better pitches with better timing.

Josh is by far the better athletic specimen, but Jaybo has more hours in an option system. We need to stop pitting these two against each other as they both will get plenty of PT the next 3 years.
