CPJ: "We're better than we were a year ago"

Well thank God. If we aren't better than last year than there is something seriously wrong. I can't say that quote really gets me very excited.

We expected to be better. This fall we will see if we are able to do better.

Never thought I'd see Mark Bradley take Tech in April.

LOL

This is almost exactly what I was saying to myself when I first read the title!

I love reading the comments from the dawg nation followers. These guys are scared --deep down they know that Tech is moving up and UGA was probably at a program zenith last season ...and yet Tech won the football game.

UGA will have a good football team this fall, they normally do, but things are going to be different in this state for a while when it comes to the in-state rivaly. Tech will keep getting better and better.

This season's schedule is tough, I don't know if nine wins will be topped or not, but I can say right now, on April 16th, that I'm fairly confident that Tech will make it two-in-a-row @ BDS come this November.

I'm getting ahead of myself here which is something I seldom do. Jax State is our next game ...but I cannot wait until November 28.

IMO this was precisely the right thing to say:

On the importance of beating Georgia: “Because of the recent history it was a big deal to the fans. And it was an important game to our players because it was the in-state rival, and we know they’ve a good program and a good team. But I don’t think about it [every day]; we don’t talk about it here. You move on. While it’s a big game, it won’t be mentioned until we get ready to play them. It’s not like our be-all and end-all.”

Now this spring, I think we’ve made strides. If you ask our defensive kids, they’ll tell you it’s night and day from last spring to this spring, just the speed of it.
Awesome. Our guys have faced the triple option for about a year and a half, yet they're having trouble adjusting to the faster pace our offensive guys are working at. There's now way other teams are going to be able to shut it down given a week's worth of practices.

Reading some of the trash talk in the AJC blog, there's a mutt fan trying to convince someone (and himself) that Paul Johnson was the same as Pepper Rodgers. They are indeed worried. I hope Coach Johnson stays here long enough to establish in everyone's mind that the balance of power has shifted to Atlanta.

Good thing he beat UGA because if he had lost those comments wouldn't have flown.

I had to double take on that last line to make sure it came from Bradley's keyboard and not CPJ's mouth... I love the pic that goes with the article. The one dude sportin the umbrella and CPJ standin there drenched cuz he has been in the trenches with the boys all afternoon rain or shine...That look on CPJ's face is priceless

I just don't get the negative reaction towards his comments regarding ugag. If he makes the entire season revolve around that game, then his players lose focus on the rest of the games. I think he did a good job explaining himself and I have no problem with what he said.

He's got to keep the right perspective on the game even if the crazy fans (including me) don't.

Exactly. The "other teams have seen it before" argument is idiotic. Most teams play the same teams year in and year out. How does that give one team an advantage over the other? Why is it that only one team benefits from seeing the other but not the other way around?

I don't think the relevant question is "what are we going to do when other teams 'figure out' our offense" I think its how many freakin times do we have to beat the snot out of those teams before people stop asking that stupid question.

Yes. It is great to defeat UGA. It is a must to defeat UGA. It feels real good to look up at the scoreboard at the end of the GT/UGA game and see more points under GT than UGA.

But I want to win ACC championships and play in BCS bowl games. To do that, yes, players --and coaches ..including the head coach-- need to be focused on the entire schedule.

The CFA bowl is an example of what can happen when focus is lacking. I want to WIN bowl games, not just get there. And yes, of course I want to defeat UGA.
