Crap! We're Ranked ...

We're not discussing a three way tie. We're discussing OU being ranked ahead of UT.

Ok, well then why isn't Texas Tech ranked ahead of Texas? They BEAT them head-to-head. It works both ways. Are you making the point that Texas Tech lost later in the season, so that hurts them more? By that logic, OU would still be ranked highest, because their loss was the earliest.

I just want to know what your angle on this is. It's a tricky situation. Not cut-and-dry as you say.

Why does TT even matter? Since everyone likes MOV (stupid IMO)....All teams have one loss, TT got beat by the most points, take em out.

There ya go.

Yea, I don't get how TT fell to the lowest ranked 1-loss team. I suppose it was due to the massive beatdown, but still, they beat Texas.

Just admit that your dislike of TT is coloring your opinion. It's a three way tie, and as such the team that lost the longest ago is ranked the highest.

They will dominate you by mentioning the two SEC teams in the top 5. Don't be ignorant.

You could counter with the fact that the SEC has three 4-7 teams to the ACC's one. But this will likely be met with a confused look as their poor brain can't comprehend why it's important.

They matter because it is a THREE-FREAKING-WAY TIE! You can't just discount one of the teams in the tie and leave the head-to-head from the other two to decide it.

Also, although you're trying to argue margin-of-victory, you're actually arguing margin of defeat. Were you to ACTUALLY argue margin-of-victory, you'd see that Oklahoma wins that category.

Above all else, I think breaking a three-way tie with BCS average (after the head-to-head records) is kind of stupid. They probably SHOULD use something like MOV or something else.

Problem with using MOV or MOD or any M is that it encourages running the score up (not that that didn't happen last night). They probably should use something like , oh I don't know, a playoff.

But then no one would watch any regular season games because the regular season wouldn't mean anything. I mean just look at the NFL. It is pretty much non-existent until the playoffs.

Oh yeah, I forgot. NO ONE watches the NFL until the playoffs. ;)

I am loving these conversations you are having because they all support the need for a playoff.

Adding this in because he posted while I did - I don't like playoffs. Why? Obama does. Therefore I will hate them till he changes his mind.

I don't dislike TT really. It's more of a liking UT kinda thing. I mis-spoke a little.

Absolutely. I'd say it's safe to bet that our average record is very similar and I am about to compute that.

I think MOV/MOD/how bad you got your ass kicked is the dumbest stat in the country, and I was making a joke by using it. Why not use BCS?

I'm watching it because my girlfriend just left and my dog likes the Falcons.

Even if there was a playoff, this kind of mess would still exist. In an 8 team playoff, there aren't going to be 3 Big12 teams invited. So how do you decide who to leave out?

Why not? If you take the top 8 teams, all three of them are in it right now.

Because, it'd be too big12 heavy. You'd need to balance it out to prevent easy conference bias from leaving out strong teams from a stronger conference that may have an extra loss.

The expression is "cut and dried.

If you're going to correct someone, don't screw up your post too.

Oh and actually, both are acceptable. The "dried" version is just the more common.

TT getting destroyed should take them out of the equation in terms of the national championship IMO. Obviously they are still in the running for the division, but that shouldn't factor in. It's like how VT could beat UVA and win the Coastal, but if we beat UGA we will still be ranked high while they may not be ranked at all.

The biggest issue I have with placing Oklahoma ahead of Texas is that to me it seems almost like Texas is getting penalized for losing while Oklahoma's loss is considered OKAY. I don't like situations like this, because it seems like the team that wins the head-to-head in an early season matchup has to go undefeated in order to stay ahead of the team they beat.
