CRC pick-up report

IIRC, Greg Paulus was something like a 4-star QB with an offer from Notre Dame when he came out of high school. Imagine that.

If he had played football we would have gems like this.

That might not be what you meant, but that video is great.

Nice video :laugher:. That's embarassing.

Don't mean to rain on the parade...but perhaps it is not such a good idea for any of the football players to be participating in [pick up games or being involved in other activities outside of football...seeing as how they can lead to unwanted injury...Especially Nesbitt who is already recovering from an injury....What do HC like CPJ and their position coaches have to say about such things....I would think they'd advise or strongly be against it.

In high school being big, strong, and athletic does mean you can play basketball. There have been some cases of guys on a D-1A football team being recruited by the coach to play basketball. I can't remember any of their names right now, but I don't believe they did very well.
Well CJ Williams did pretty well for Cremins back in the day. Also Julius Peppers played a big (no pun) role for Carolina several years back. Not saying they all can help out, but wouldn't be surprised if some could. In particular since we couldn't seem to get a rebound or play defense last year.

I don't think they are allowed to during the season. Off-season, who knows?

I used to run up at SAC all the time back in the day and Joe would be in there occassionally showing he was the best point guard on campus at the time.

I gotta say the most athletic regular in those games was Rodney Williams. Saw him take off from one foot inside the free throw line and throw down.

CJ played in his senior year, after his FB eligibility was expired.. FWIW

Minor point, but CJ lettered 3 years in football and 2 in basketball. Did he leave early?

C.J. Williams, now playing with the Edmonton Eskimos in the Canadian Football League, must be held accountable for his own actions. He obviously made a big mistake, jumping into the NFL after an injury-filled junior season in which he ran for only 663 yards. At the time of the decision, O'Leary publicly called it a "big mistake."
Although the NFL's college advisory board indicated to Williams that he probably would go in the third or fourth round, he went undrafted. Immediately, he questioned O'Leary and Tech's coaching staff.
"Some scouts told me they heard negative things about me from the coaching staff," Williams told the Journal-Constitution in 1997. "Every one of the (Tech assistants) told me a couple of the other coaches were talking bad about me, saying I wasn't a hard worker." Williams eventually signed with the Arizona Cardinals as a free agent, receiving a $1,000 signing bonus and a round-trip plane ticket to Tempe. After a lackluster training camp, the rookie used the return ticket to Atlanta.

Back in mid 70's the best pick up games were in the old Naval Armory gym where The Edge is today. Greg Horne, Freeman Colbert, Mike Johnson, and Rudy Allen could play - most had been pretty good high school players. But the best far and away was Reggie Wilkes who had played on a state championship team at Southwest Atlanta (now Mays) with Anthony Flanagan and Frank Glover. Behind Jim Woods, Reggie was probably the second best basketball player in school. He would have been a fine power forward in college.

Nesbitt was offered by FSU when their assistant showed up to a BB game & saw him in warmups...not the game...warmups.

They had never seen him play a down---live or on tape---and offered on the spot.

Actually, a few FB players were on the team that won the Independent league intramural championship this spring. Bebe and a few others, for sure.

ramblin_man...Players Play. If you tell them not to they wont, but they will do something else that may be more destructive. I speak from experience, having dealt with a jet ski accident that almost did me in, ..... but did not.

Would much rather our boys play hoops than visit the Northside Tavern. Dont you agree?

Wheeler was up there yesterday. NFL contract waiting ... playing pick-up. On a dusty slippery floor.

typing really fast on a keyboard is NOT considered "pumping iron"; nor is playing with your tiny penis

I was gonna say, "Sure you weren't pumping some other guy?" but really your response is funnier.
