D rad gets new deal

This is great news. I think he has done a tremendous job and we are very fortunate to have him working for the good guys.

Not if a tremendous job includes beating UGA.

in which sport? the AD is responsible for the ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT, not beating UGA in football

grow up, and quit your myopic whining!

Geesh GTCrew, the man fired Chan Gailey and hired Coach Paul Johnson. Beating UGAG is already going to happen. In my book, the man has done real good !!

Whatever.

I blame zero of our losses to UGA on DRad and give him credit for zero (of our rare) wins. PJ hasn't won a game so I refuse to crown DRad as the AD extrordinaire.

He is a very good communicator and I like him. And i love the PJ hire. However I expect GT to be good at Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Golf. And so far we are way behind the dogs at all of them.

As you point out, DRad coaches nobody. But I prefer to reserve the adulation for after I see performance worthy of such. Sorry if my standard for performance for the AD involves athletic success.

(And yes the tennis babes rock, but I'd trade 100 years of zero tennis wins for a win over UGA in Football.)

Crew,

He email'd me personally on a Saturday when I had a season ticket question...hows that for communication!

DRad has done great things for the athletic department...but not so great things for the student ticketing department. A reform concerning the way student tickets are distributed HAS TO HAPPEN. When students camp for 3 days for tickets only for them to get gobbled up by greedy fraternities who only want to make money reselling the tickets...something needs to be done. It has gotten progressively worse over the past 3 years, and DRad should be at the forefront of making his (future) alumni happy. Seriosuly, our students are the best fans there are and we deserve to be represented as much, if not more, than season ticket holders at every home game. After all, this is a SCHOOL and while it remains true that season ticket holders bring the school revenue, nothing would be possible without students to make the school what it is.

Sorry for the rant, but I got on a roll and wanted to make my point. :)

I agree that there should be a better(online) way for students to get access to the games much like the online basketball ticket system but there is no need to fault "The Fraternities" on campus for the lack of tickets. About half of the Fraternities use the 1st and 10 system to reserve their blocks and they are only allotted the number of seats that they PAY for. Any student can use the same system and pay all of $15 to reserve a seat in BDS for EVERY home football game which I think is well worth it if you are camping out for 3 days for just one.
There are plenty of other student organizations on campus who wait in line for every game and "greedily gobble up" your tickets.

the problem is that too many Tech fans dont appreciate what we achieve, only what we achieve compared to UGA, which is just plain dumb, IMO

they have 3x the student body, and 1/3 the difficulty in class work. do you really think we should be competing with them on everything?

our tennis, golf, baseball is pretty damn good. who cares if it is "better than UGA"? if you need our athletic teams to validate you in front of you Dawg friends then i think you need more help than any win in FB can solve!

I have maybe two dog friends and here in Va I have to tolerate zero doggies. I am on record as saying that an ACC championship in football is more important than a Georgie win and I am in the minority with that opinion.

I don't disagree with any of your sentiment except that I note that we fired an OK football coach because he couldn't beat Georgie. At a time where financially waiting one year had some advantages. As I state above I like PJ a lot, that is beside this point.

Every advantage Georgie has over us in tennis, golf, baseball, etc, they have it double or more in football. Georgie despite it's size does not really care about the other sports any more than GT does.

We actually have advantages in Basketball and we still can't win. I assure you, winning in basketball is extremely important to GT, even to GT football (for reasons I don't care to enumerate right now).

If DRad can't run a ship that beats Georgie in sports where we have advantages, then perhaps we have settled for mediocrity.

Even those defending D-Rad in this thread have failed to mention that his first and foremost priority at hiring was to correct the GTAA's financial situation. He has done a whale of a job in a short amount of time to that end - some of the moves (TECH FUND) are unfavorable to some fans but he really did a good job of dividing the "pain" between fans, students and GT.

more (couldn't edit previous post)....

The only thing he can do about UGA is hold coaches accountable to which he has already replaced the football coach. I don't understand why that would even be brought up in this thread - makes no sense whatsoever.

Somebody refresh my memory. Who recruited and coached the fundamentals to our last final four team. I know Hewitt was coach at the time, but did he recruit and do all the teaching?

I'm not trying to put the entire blame for the faulty ticket system on the fraternities, but having been someone who got screwed by them skirting the ticketing rules...I feel like I have a right to be angry that they got away with it. Everyone knows what our stadium was like for the UGAy game this year and I only blame the number of dog fans in BDS on students and fans alike who resell their tickets to make a quick buck. I know for a fact that at least 2 of the frats that were ahead of us in line received 400+ tickets a piece. (Again, I'm not trying to come down on the frats, I'm sure there were other organizations doing the same thing, but the frats were the only ones that I know of.) A system like we have in place for basketball--based on loyalty and kept fair, would make the process easier, less stressful, and it would level the playing field among all students.

Because they absolutely need someone to blame right now and they need it to be someone that's around. Can't be Chan, so Dan is the next in line.

Tune in next week for Blame or No Blame's most intriguing episode yet!
"Well the fact that we've lost to Georgia for seven years can't very well be Paul Johnson's fault.. ..or can it?

He recruited and taught them ALL except Clarence Moore, who was recruited by BC and taught 50/50 by Cremins and Hewitt.

Thanks Stick.

I just cannot figure out how his earlier team knew so much and could apply their knowledge so well when his later teams cannot do it as well. Are we getting lesser skilled players? Is there less coaching? Is there a morale issue? Is the coaching being shortchanged because of early outs? Is there (dare I even say it?) racial disharmony? Are there grade issues? What about injuries? How long can reasons be excuses?
