D rad gets new deal

RE: PJisthenewCJ's complaints about student ticketing.

D..something needs to be done. It has gotten progressively worse over the past 3 years, and DRad should be at the forefront of making his (future) alumni happy.

Well--three students sit and vote on the GT AA Board. While you can debate the actual authority of the board, the students have enough weight that they should be able to schedule a meeting to discuss solutions with DRad. If they haven't done this, maybe you should get the people who have DRad's ear to do something (the student board members). The board members are typically that SGA President, the President of the Graduate Senate, and a Student Athlete Representative.

I'm sure that if the SGA President has his/her act together they can get a meeting with DRad once they have a valid and well thought out reform proposal.

I'm sure that if you tell the SGA President you'll do some of the research work/help develop a solid proposal they'll be glad to have your help, unless you have a anti or pro fraternity/sorority/GDI twist to your plan.

I don't know much about D'rad and that is a problem. I live 2 hours from Downtown Atlanta and I feel that D'rad isn't visible enough to the outside Atlanta audience. I know that he goes on the road sometimes but it seems to be limited in scope. We need a visible AD that everyone in this State knows. Do we have that? I don't think so. I have heard D'rad speak, and he is enthusiastic and motivational, but I just don't think he is getting the message out to rural areas. Also, a man who gives Chan Gailey a 5 year contract when the whole Jacket nation is calling for CG's head, is questionable. That was a dumb thing to do. It has cost our Athletic Dept a great deal of money that is pure waste. I think D'rad had better get into high gear, and not depend on PJ to do it all in the future. I rate him average just a little bit better than Braine.

I'm sorry but you are totally off-base on this post. Get your facts straight too, he did not give the contract to Chan that would of been Dave Braine. Some people just do not have a clue, I think hes not visible to you because its obvious your clueless if you think he gave Chan the extension and your out of the loop with whats going on at GT.:noob:

Maybe you need to venture out of the mountains every once in a while.

I agree with demjackets, and to add on to that:

The rural areas you refer to are - for the most part - a lost cause. They are overwhelmingly Georgia fans and will stay that way. Whichever ones are bandwagon or swing fans will come back our way when we start beating Georgia. Other than that, Dan's target has been the Atlanta crowd (Think Atlantic Station) because most of them don't have a team that they have an allegiance to.

You don't walk up to the first log cabin you see with a Georgia Tech flyer and expect them to be answering the call for the Good Word.

I actually have written a couple of letters (and gotten favorable responses) to DRad and have talked to people in SGA about what is being done about this process. I regret some of my original comments because people on this board believe that I have an agenda to rid Greeks of their tickets. This was not the point of my post...the Greeks were the ones that I happened to see skirting the rules and they were mentioned in my post. Are other groups on campus doing the same thing? Absolutely, and this is the point of my response. A total reform of the system for ALL students is what is needed here. I would caution you to not cast me aside as another whiner who complains on here and then does nothing to make change because, in fact, I am quite the opposite.

I've spoken to Drad a few times about getting out within the state and I believe the effort is getting better. There is a line between Dalton and Gainesville that hadn't been touched in a while.

We need visable Alumni in these areas to make better efforts to get these clubs back in motion. I'm not criticizing but just saying what is being told to me by influential alumni in these areas.

A lot of the older Alumni have become complacent and happy with the 7 to 8 wins. Their pocket books have also been drained for a long time as well. If CPJ can get this turned around quickly I believe you will see the outer areas perk up.

alan, it really seems you don't have your facts straight on this stuff man. DRad has gotten out 1000% more than Braine ever did and he's just getting started. Also to suggest he had anything to do with Chan other than firing him cements the fact that you don't have the story straight.

Thanks for setting me straight, fellow Jackets.

I stand corrected on the fact that D'rad did not give the new contract to CG. I do believe that the AD has to be very visible to the media and local TD clubs at HSs and GT Clubs.

I don't see much Tech news in my area. I don't ever see a real AJC and I read online when I can. I am out of the loop but I make a real effort now and I read the forums when I can, this helps a lot. If I am out of the loop, where is the average fan, maybe completely ignorant of Tech sports activities and forget building new fans. But we do need new fans.

Coach R over at Ugag apparently goes to speak at a TD club, HS Booster Club, Alumni Club every day or so, I have read that this is one reason he has such success at recruiting, he has become a celebrity and makes local news everywhere he goes. I don't think PJ is this type, so who is our front man. The AD is a good possibility. I do believe someone needs to take on this role. Who wants to be a celebrity, Tech needs an Athletic media spokesperson.
