Hope this is personal issues and not team issues, and I hope the change of scenery works out for him. I'm thinking it is most likely grades/class plus hot chicks related.
 
This blows, he was one of the guys I was highest on in last years class.
 
Was he told that he wouldn't receive playing time this year? Otherwise losing ayer to RS then a second year to transfer is tough (unless he's going FCS, which if that's the case, you might as well stay at GT to get the degree).

Believe it or not, a LOT of these kids (after working & training their body fo 5-8 years or so) find football very important to them. Not because they all think they are going to the NFL, but because they love the game and want something back from their sacrifice. And a LOT of them know that is as important, given their sacrifice, as the degree from GT. There really are a lot of successful people in the world that did not graduate from GT.

To college football players, football is important.

You are disproportionally better off with a GT degree than the vast majority of school.

Your statement is akin to saying "there really are a lot of people who won the lottery" as justification for playing the lottery or "there really are a lot of people who are successful after dropping out of college" as justification for dropping out of college.

To your other point, the importance of athletics, I get it - people make irrational decisions. But everyone has something that they self-identify with that they have to scale back as they grow older and it appears to not be part of their future. For some it's athletics, for others it's art or music or astronomy, etc. It's called maturity.
 
Odds are he's having academic issues. He was at the bottom of the depth chart at CB too so that probably played into it. It sucks but we'll be ok. Lamont Simmons and Step will start next year.
 
We've got a bunch of young guys at his position ahead of him. He was a recruit I was excited about, but there were at least 3 other DBs in his class that were as impressive, if not moreso. Hate to lose the depth, but good luck to him.
 
Should we thank him for timing his departure so that we have another scholly to give before signing day?
