Digging through some old family member stuff and found this. Could it be from around 1917?

Tech was known as the "Golden Tornado" singular from 1917 to 1929 so the pennant came from that era and is in amazingly good shape. National champions in 1917 and in 1929 so it was no fluke.

it was in a basement hanging on a wall in the dark. No sunlight ever reached it. It just has some dust spots.

That is an awesome find! Are you going to frame it?

It may be, but I bought the same one in late 60s. Had a general GT pennant besides one in the picture, and about 5 that Mom & Dad brought me from bowl games GT had been in.

Of course, just like the old Lionel train set and great baseball card collection, they found their way to the trash can when Mom assumed they would only sit in boxes gathering dust.

Not her fault, none of us knew :(

Still, a Great find.

What makes me think it's not circa 1917, is the depiction of the stadium as the horseshoe. When were the original south stands built?

Also looks to be a multi-color screen print, which I don't think really existed for textiles in 1917.

Has a late 60s to mid-70s feel to the design, particularly the yellow jacket logo which was used from roughly 1965-1978 I believe.

I own over 40 historical GT pennants. Based on the typeface and similar pennants of the era I agree with the earlier poster that it looks to date from the late 60s. Nice one.

I will never understand the odd placement of green and/or hot pink that show up in other pennants of that time.

Probably a result of another ink color deteriorating over time.

I have several from the 40s...Tech, Auburn and Navy. I date them to that era because the Tech one still says Georgia School of Technology.
