David Shaw out at Stanford

Wow, Stanford really thinks they can do better? They may regret this move.

I don't know. He started off strong, but every three-year period of his tenure was worse than the last. Just a pretty steady decline from being a fringe championship contender to a bottom feeder in the PAC-12.

“Hey Paul, look, everybody here hates you and wants you to fail. They’re gonna be zero help to us. But ya know what, **** em, let’s do this just me and you. Without them we have zero shot and will both fail together. Please come on back, pretty please.”

Please tell me you don’t seriously believe that lmao.
I don't believe it was phrased the goofy ass mentally deficient way you did it, but there was an AJC article where T Stan basically said I like you Paul but the big donors don't like you or your offense and aren't willing to give any extra money for you.

Which part do you think is so hard to believe, that the donors didn't like Paul and wouldn't give him additional support, or that Stansbury asked him to stay longer?

The part harder to believe is the part where you insinuated Todd begged Paul to stay while boosters pretty much said no. You understand how silly that is, correct?

In the 2016 film "Meet the Donors: Does Money Talk," Freeman said that after raising and contributing millions of dollars to George W. Bush's 2000 presidential campaign, he was expecting a government appointment such as "a chance to run the CIA," but Bush instead offered him his cat.[5] According to friends, Bush did arrange for Freeman a membership of Augusta National Golf Club.

Bush might have arranged tournament credentials (Masters speak for tickets), but I find it hard to believe Bush could 'arrange' an ANGC membership for anyone. ANGC staunchly defends its policies regarding the privacy of its membership practices, and I seriously doubt Bush, whom I like, or any US President, could arrange such a membership.

Paul said Todd asked him to stay another year in the recent AJC article that came out. I guess if you think he's BSing you can take that up with Paul and Todd. By all accounts I've seen, Todd and Paul had a good working relationship. The scenario of a boss asking an employee to stay despite not being able to increase their compensation/support/resources is pretty common, it has happened to me multiple times in my career. Paul said no, which is also a pretty common response to that scenario.

Ever been to Palo Alto? No one there gives two öööös about college football. It's almost impossible to draw fans even if Stanford is any good. Anyone who is a football fan in that area (and few are) is a Niners fans, until you go across the Bay and then you have the Black Hole - so Bezerkeley fares little better.

Someone with intimate knowledge of the situation. I knew he was gone probably 6 weeks before the news was public. I believe that you can still go look up his compensation and see the payout since he is a state employee, although it may have been paid outside of his publicly reported compensation.

Think about it, why would he just leave money on the table? Answer: He wouldn't. Well he had enough character to take less than his full buyout...
