David Sims article

Great article! Are you noticing a pattern developing with CPJ's recruits? Integrity, good academics, grit, dedication, and a will to succeed! Awesome SA's coming to the Flats!

Nice article... I wonder how the battle between Sims and Luallen is going to shake out... I get the impression that Luallen has less opportunity to fall back to another position should he not win the QB position whereas it sounds like Sims could be A/B Back.

What do you think the coaches do if Sims is the better QB but only by a little bit? Do they make sure they're both seeing playing time at QB, or move Sims to A/B Back and let Luallen be QB? I hear all the time that coaches will try to field the best people in each position - but does it always have to be like that?

I think they would both stay at QB in that situation. We need two quality QBs in this system.

What really excites me about Sims is his dtermination and dedication. He sounds like a definite WINNER!

Reminds me of another young QB out of SC that no one wanted to play the position.

I really don't know enough about Luallen nor has anyone seen either on the Flats practicing yet, but I do think that if Sims plays to his potential, he is going to be tough to beat out. Sims is a playmaker. Not only could he be a successful college RB or DB, he has a deceptively good arm...not the most accurate at this stage, but he can throw bullets. He is a perfect fit for our offense and does remind me quite a bit of Nesbitt.

Brian Bohannon had a quote saying something along the lines of " he's a faster version of Josh Nesbitt"

Definitely agree. Also, he can cut like nobody's business. He has that initial quickness that you like to see in an option QB, but he is definitely a threat to find a seam, accelerate, make a move, and take it to the house when he hits the second level. I can't wait to see him in action.

I think after a year or two he is going to be very hard for anyone to beat out. I wonder if he will redshirt. I am sure Luallen will but will Sims?

Yeah he will RS. We'll have 3 quarterbacks who have been in at least a year and we don't need more than 3. If we ever do, then we have either big problems or amazingly bad luck.

He looks like 90 mph just standing still in that picture.

CPJ is going to develop QBs at GT that he has never in his wildest dreams ever had a chance to.

I've watched a lot of Sims videos and his arm does not impress me at all. I don't see him playing QB after a couple of years.

I can tell you this is the guy Paul Johnson personally recruited. After he had committed to Kentucky, Johnson invited him down to a game, I think it was the Mississippi State game and in the pregame warm ups he came over to the North end zone where several recruits were standing and watching the warm ups. PJ told him to walk with him out to the midfield area. He then proceeded to have David stand and watch the triple option warm ups that Josh and Jaybo were running and spent a good 15 minutes of serious discussion with him. Sims face lit up with a big smile several times and you could see that Johnson was telling him just how much he wanted him to be a part of his team. I think that was the moment Sims changed his mind. He committed the following few days after that game.

I know Luallen is a great get as well but I have to think PJ has seen something special in Sims and made it clear to him that he felt he could be the man to run his offense down the road.

Go Jackets!

If Luallen or Sims can show early on that they can compete and win the #3 QB slot on the depth chart...they will not redshirt and Tevin Washington could get moved to AB. If Tevin holds on the #3, Luallen and Sims could both redshirt this year...although the coaches really want to find a way to get Sims on the field offensively.

Fast, Tough, innacurate arm and a competitive leader? Sounds like Nesbitt to me and not Joe Ham.
