We knew that the schedule this year was rough before the season. It still is. Things like this back it up.

Got to exclude the games against us and rerank offenses. Otherwise you have a huge confounder in this assessment.

As someone else said, they might be top 13 in part *because* they played against our defense. So this may actually be evidence our defense is bad.

Alternately, they're top 13 because they've played us to pad the stats.... too many receivers getting wide the öööö open for me to think we're any good on defense.
Which of them padded their stats against us? Pitt was the only one that had more offensive yardage against us than their average, and we scored more on them than they had been giving up.

Virginia is #7 in total offense but if you look at their game stats they barely run it and their QB is throwing it 50+ times a game. More passes => more plays in the game => more yards. They might be good but total offense is a misleading stat and they probably aren't 7th best in the country. Points per possession is the better metric

Last 3 games have been against teams in the top 13 of total offense.

Pittsburgh has a really good offense. Big Uglies in the trenches on the OL that can run and pass block. And an NFL QB that can read defenses, quick release, strong arm and excellent accuracy with good string receivers that make yards after the catch. Even good defenses like UGA would struggle against the Pitt offense, unless the refs called holding against Pitt— which they would.

Tech D is average on a good day. UNC was their good day. It turns out Clemson's offense isn't working on all cylinders so that day doesn't look as good as it once did.
