Actually it was supposed to be beef patties w/ gravy, sort of c-ration hamburger steak I guess. Actually sos was a breakfast item that was usually pretty good. It should be made w/ dried, thin sliced beef, like you used to be able to find in the grocery store, in a white gravy and served over toast. What we had was made w/ ground beef and was really not too different from sausage gravy seen nowadays. When I was an active Boy Scout leader I taught the kids to make a ground beef stroganoff that was essentially sos made w/ ground beef, onions, mushrooms, and a white gravy. Umm gooood!
