Easy...let them go under and let smart business people buy the scraps and build a lean auto company that is non-union and can compete.

There is a reason why Honda, Toyota, Kia, Hyundai, BMW, etc. all have plants in the southeast...they can make money doing that.

Here's my guess:
$1,000 tax incentives to go buy a GM/Ford/Chrysler car. It'll be the next economic boost and will not require any auto company to restructure unions or anything.

The domestics have to sell trucks to be successful. To sell trucks, the housing and construction markets have to be successful. For the housing markets to be successful, the banks have to loan money. For the banks to loan money, they have to have cash. For the banks to have cash, people have to pay their notes/mortgages. For people to pay their notes, they have to have jobs. For people to have jobs, businesses have to be profitable. For businesses to be profitable, they need to have less tax restrictions. Therefore, Dems cannot single handedly save the auto industry unless he is friends with Obama. Good luck Dems!
 
Demjackets, once the current administration gives out tax incentives for buying American cars, can I retroactively apply them towards my Ford Ranger I just bought to help out our economy?
 
Not that unions have done the American car companies any favors, but the if the people at the top were even remotely intelligent about how to run a business they wouldn't be in this predicament. Wasting tens of billions of dollars in R&D that you get nothing out of and taking 5 years to design new cars is not the way to be profitable.
