I don't live in Atlanta and didn't see the practices, but I was under the impression that we were building quality depth. We have two CPJ classes and if they are as good as advertised, we should have people making a difference at positions other than A-Back. I have high expectations for the redshirt OLs and don't think it should take 2 full years for someone with talent to beat out our current line. Does anyone who went to practice have comments on Uzzi, McRae and Smith? Furthermore, how do Will Jackson and the True Frosh OL look?

On the bright side, it seems that our JR standouts (Dwyer, Burnett and Morgan) should be back for their senior years.

They were both small classes. We will have another small one this year and then a huge number of guys in the following two classes. It just takes time. BTW, we are currently redshirting 4 OL iirc, all recruited by PJ and his staff for this style.

It does take time. CPJ can take an athlete like Nesbitt, who was recruited for an entirely different offense, and make it work. Credit Nesbitt for being that type of athlete, both from a physical standpoint and mentally for accepting the challenge of making changes.

With the O line it's entirely different. These guys were, of course, also recriuted with a different offense in mind, but the adjustments don't come as easily --mainly because of athletic ability. The O line will probably take the longest in terms of CPJ bringing in the linemen he needs to run the TO.

I missed this at the end of ncj's comment when I first posted. This is good news --it's just going to take another year or two to get these guys in place.

I read an article about the the Freshmen and Redshirt Freshmen Linemen. They are indeed better physically, especially for this offense, than the players who are starting now. The problem is, according to all reports, is that they are not just ready yet. CPJ is building depth on the lines but it is much easier to bring in and start skill positions in this offense than linemen.

We will be fine, it just takes time. Did you see Navy vs Ohio State? Tech will be like Navy on steroids when the kids grow up.

We've got 8-10 underclassmen this year that have NO shot of ever seeing the field. Thats really hurting us depth wise. 10 extra ships in this recruiting class would have made a world of difference.

Who are the 8-10 players who "have NO shot of ever seeing the field?"

We also have a few OL recruits pledged for 2010, which is good news.

If they really have no talent and aren't barely getting beat out the 2 deep, Paul needs to go into Nick Saban mode and get them out of here. I felt like the first recruiting class had a few players who were just given offers to "fill the class". There comes a point where you don't take players who can't play BCS ball. Having an extra 5 ships could bring in more good players this year.

Agreed... But remember, 95% of that class was gailey's players.

Are you just making a blind general statement or are you going to provide any specifics on who you feel the 8-10 players are?

Well, getting rid of "8-10 players" does not mean 8-10 more spots. There's still a scholly limit of 25 per class. Plus there's no gurantee they'll never see the field. I'd rather have them than a walk-on, which has happened before.

Plus, it's just slimy and dishonest. Tommy Bowden rescinded a scholly offer to a kid in January before signing day and the kid had to really scramble to go to a non-BCS school. You know coaches recruiting against him used that to full effect.

What happened to our 9 returning offensive starters from last year?

I think they left during the UGAg game.

Do you guys realize how many points on average we have given up since then on average?

Though, it seems that we're recruiting a great defensive class this year.

On average we have probably given up just about the average of what we have given up, on average.

Before the FSU game last year, we gave up an average of 14.375 points. Since the FSU game, we've given up 29.5 points on average.

And through 2 games we were ranked 66th in scoring defense averaging 22/game, which is very average.
