Did anyone notice the fire in Coach Johnson

I liked my high school football coach, but I wouldn't elect him to be president, or our football coach for that matter. I liked Chan a lot, but he was only good at dispassionate X's and O's. He couldn't manage employees effectively nor could he drill in execution or inspire players as CPJ can.

We've got a true college coach in CPJ. He comes from very hard working, blue-collar roots and it shows in his approach to every facet of college football coaching, from recruiting to scheming to having players execute. We will be a winner for years to come with him.

I loved seeing him fuss - the first down was there if he didn't slow down for his blocker in front.

Paul Johnson is amazing!!!! I went to the game today, and you can tell he fired that team up during the halftime. He is by far the best coach hire, and has now set a new record as a first year coach with 9 wins. That's what I read, cause Bobby Dodd had 8 wins his first year. I think I read that in the AJC.

He was juking. Who does he think he is? Walter Payton? NO. He is an OL.

I did the same thing with the ball as an OL. It's instinct, I guess, to go around somebody then to try to run straight through them, even when there's no hope to outrun them.

I taped the game and have replayed that clip of P.J. jumping up and down after we tied ugag at 28-28 and firing the offense up , My family has got tired of me replaying it, I have replayed it at least 20 times. And by the way Cbs did a great job with giving us some love playing the fight song after each score, good stuff. :fingersx:

I feel great this moring, albeit with a hangover, but GREAT! THANK YOU players, coaches, band, everyone.

I see alot of potential in PJ But I am not yet fully impressed. He was a winner againt bowden and the bulldicks his first try which is impressive. But we still lost key acc games to virginia teams and to unc. That's where he needs to be more consistent. But I'm very proud as he beat ugay when they obviously were a little better than us. Go PJ

WHAT?! 9-3, a win over the bitches and a top 15 ranking in his 1st year and you´re not yet fully impressed!!

Do we have to win the acc or just the national championship to make you happy?

+1
Think I read something somewhere where he is the first coach to win 9 games in his first season. Not sure how true that is--but he sure has fully impressed me.

I hate to admit guys, even I , the biggest PJ man crusher before the season started, did not think we would win 9 games. I thought 7 was a fair number and I was holding out on the UGA game until they were in our house, although I did think we would win the ACC, we tied for our division, not much more you can ask for in a coaches first year.

(I believe) PJ owns the longest or second longest (both belong to GSU anyways) home winning streak in I-aa / FCS! I'll need to double check that.

We could see a home winning streak beginning for GT very soon!

From the game summary...
the second-most wins ever by a coach in his first 12 seasons as a head coach; only Tom Osborne (118 wins) won more
the most wins by a Georgia Tech coach in his first season with the Yellow Jackets

No one has done better in their first 12 seasons than CPJ other than Tom freakin' Osbourne. And, CPJ did it at GS, Navy and then at GT. That is unbeelievable my friends.

Please, please don't ever use the words "fire" and "Coach Johnson" in the same sentence ever, ever again!

I really don't want to pile on any Gailey-bashing, as he was a good guy and didn't do th eworst job possible.

But, one of his quirks that irritated me from the early days, (when I supported him against those calling for a new coach before the first season) was his stubborn refusal to change or adjust a game plan. He even stated his belief after a game that he did not believe in adjustments, just execution of the original plan. An adjustment would be an admission that something was wrong with the original plan.

Johnson seems to have the opposite approach. If the opposition is stopping our offense, you can be sure something will change in the second half. Whether that change works depends on the execution of the team. But a defense will not be able to stuff us consistently withthe same approach for 60 minutes.

Yeah, CCG and Oliar were similar in that they were stubborn to a fault....almost would rather lose just to prove a point to their players.

the most wins by a Georgia Tech coach in his first season with the Yellow Jackets

We've been over this before. It's an apples to oranges comparison, because the length of schedule varies from era to era. To be fair, you have to look at winning percentage.

Right now, CPJ has a pct of 0.75, but it could end up being either 0.769 or 0.692. Either way he's 3rd.

In their first year at Tech, Heisman had 0.85 and Alexander had 0.89. For pure comparison purposes, our previous coach had 0.538 his first year, and never did better than 0.643.

Why are people talking about Gailey? It's like talking about an ugly ex-girlfriend when you just started dating a Victoria's Secret model. It's not healthy.
