did we waist any redshirts last year?

I don't think so. Marcus really threw some great blocks and I could never forget the fumble he caused against georgia. Sylvester didn't really get a lot of pt on defense. Played good on special teams.

Yeah Marcus was important late. I thought it was a mistake to burn his RS but I think he was partially responsible for at least 2-3 TDs and the fumble recovery in the Georgie game (he was underneath Samuel's right knee so when the ball came out, he wasn't down)

I can't take it! Sorry to do this: Waste

On a separate note, naw, I feel good about where we are. We are going to staked at A-back I think. And without Marcus, we might not of won the UGA game, and that would be something I wouldn't take back for the world!

The only way you can "waste" a redshirt, is you have to assume that in 4 years you will not have a player any better than an assumed 4 year starter that will never get injured, go pro, or leave the program. I can't predict tomorrow, much less 4 years from now.:D

redshirts are overrated for skill players. Just like with knowshow he was redshirted and then ONLY played 3 years.

Lineman (or players that need more size) need to be redshirted.

The reality is IT IS VERY UNLIKELY that 3 years from now we will be lamenting the fact that Marcus is graduating.

We will be taking A-backs for the next 3 years and UNLESS we have SOME SERIOUS injuries his TOP value will be in his early part of his college career. IMO

Why do you think that? You think he won't improve or just that we will bring in players that much better?

The delta between Marcus and the next available guy will be higher in year 1/2 of the offense than in subsequent years. We had a FB playing A-Back last year. Next year this time, we'll have Jemea Thomas, Orwin Smith, Charles Perkins, Jamal Paige, etc behind Marcus. With Roddy, Allen, and/or Peeples ahead on on par with Marcus.

There's also the possibility that if the team really needs it, a player can redshirt a year other than freshman year, like Phillip Wheeler did.

I would say we needed to burn the redshirts we did last year because we were pretty shallow all around last year. If one of the players on the kicking team had been redshirted instead, we would have had to risk a starter on kickoff return.

Marcus Wright was NOT a wasted redshirt.

He was CRUCIAL in the Georgia Game, as he recovered the huge fumble to set up Dwyer's go-ahead TD in the 3rd quarter. We went from 28-12 with 15:00 to 35-28 with 7:00 - Truly unbelievable.

Think about that:
14:55 Georgia - 28 Georgia Tech - 12
7:05 Georgia Tech - 35 Georgia - 28

Simply amazing...
