Disappointed in effort and leadership

Clemson was not unbeatable tonight. Their defensive front was very good and made it tough on an offense with little ability on its interior line. However, we have beaten Clemson on nights not too unlike tonight by playing hard, spirited and determined football. We hung in ther and found a way to win at the end. I will not call guys out who try and yet mess up. But I saw half hearted effort on defense from 91, 41, and 42 on several plays. They should be leaders. Our QB has to lead. He has to realize his attitude sets the tone. I saw some awful effort on blocks by 26 in pass protection.

In nine days against the U we need to see a team that plays hard with spirit, effort and focus. It's one thing to get beat. It's another thing to play poorly with questionable effort on some plays.

Defense wasn't the problem. First half stats...

Clemson first downs = 19
GT total yardage = 22

There was nothing and I mean nothing to write home about. Pathetic effort. Most glaring difference was between our OL and Clemson's DL and secondly our secondary against their receivers. We should have cleared the bench to see who wanted to play tonight. I didn't see Brandon Adams or Tra Jackson out on D during first half debacle.

Don't dog the secondary. The D forced several punts last night, and the DBs made some key deflections against very good receivers. Most games, if we can hold our opponent to 26 points, we are winning by a touchdown or more. The story of the game is our inability to block on offense. Blocking was atrocious.

The DB's played okay after Clemson called the dogs off, but I saw many missed tackles by the DB's and too much cushion and not enough contesting throws. Any time a QB can go over 300 Yds and multiple TD passes I find it hard to defend that position. Most of the numbers came in the first half when Clemson had their foot on the gas. Don't take consolation out of their performance.

Yes, like all good coaches, Dabo felt good about the game and took his foot off the gas with 30 minutes to go. That's why no TD's in the 2nd half. #armchaircoaching

some people just refuse to ever place any blame on the offense.

Some people refuse to appreciate that the best defenses in the world still sometimes give up first downs.

The defensive effort last night was amazing, considering their opponent, and the pickle the offense put them in.

Agreed. Anyone else remember them throwing to the end zone off play action with 2 minutes left on their first play at our 25 yd line?

They didn't want to score anymore, so they intentionally missed the open WR.

The defense was the only part of the team that played period

Look at the per drive results. Nobody cares how many yards they got.

Dunno. Dabo was still running plays pretty fast. I think Watson checked out a bit. They took out all the QB keep stuff (smart) but Watson really missed some easy scores. Still think the defense played well enough, all things considered.

I must admit, if I were Roof, I would have sent 8 on that last drive with the intent to hurt Watson. He is classier than I am.

Other than a lack of any pressure on Watson, the D played admirably in a tough situation

The O was getting creamed. We seemed to hit the blocks often, but not actually accomplish blocking the guy

The Tigers were VERY motivated to win, and we are undersized in comparison

Its not rocket science, more like rock science

QB scramble to the EZ; we would have had to send more like 11 or 12 to get him, maybe some from the sideline from out of his view

His release was pretty daggum fast...much better than last year.

So a 7-pt performance by the offense should have been enough to win?

Guys already said it, but i want to say it. Defensive effort was great all things considered. Has to be hard to keep giving your all to keep the game somewhat in reach when the offense if getting humiliated over and over. We went down 14 in the 1st Qtr and played really well for the remainder of the game.
