Disparaging Comments

Saddly, id say we were below average in an ok conference.

This year, were winning the ACC!
Listen, we needed a change at the top, but just how do you figure we were below average? We haven't had a losing conference record in something like 10 years. I'd say that's at least average or slightly above. Let's not get carried away and denigrate what we've done because we're excited about the future. We're not going from a bad program to good, we're going from okay to great.

I am tired of hearing all of the comments from other school's fans saying this offense won't work in the BCS. Spoke w/ a FSU fan today about it. I can take the heat, but really irks me from all these schools that perceive our program as mid level, even considering that we haven't seen too many high powered offenses the past few years from many schools. I am ready for the football season to shut some of these traps up.

I see your point well enough, but when we are discounted by the opposition, our stock may rise.
I/we don't know for sure how the new system will pan out at GT, we'll just have to wait and see. Seems to have worked pretty well at other places though.
Personally, I prefer the boring kind of offense that lines up in maybe an "I", runs the ball for at least 4-5 yards a play and then scores.
I wouldn't care if we NEVER thru a pass if we were strong enough to run every play and make first downs.
My main concern is, can we beat UGA with this system. If we can, I'm all for it. If we can't, scrap it and try something else. All games are great to win and should be won, but there's only one game in our season that really matters. Guess which one !!

The best thing about our coach is NOT his offense, but his absolute hatred for losing. Whether or not we can achieve the success rate that we all are looking for with the TO, or a tweaked version, remains to be seen. It is my humble opinion that PJ will find a way to win at GT, and we should all be prepared to give him the time and support to work his will.

Please forgive me for linking you to Ugag's website but you should be encouraged by the stats from the Ugag / GSU game from 2004. Yes, I know CPJ was already coaching at Navy but one of our current O-line coaches Mike Sewak was at the helm for GSU and running virtually the same 3-0 offense. After all, he was the OC while CPJ ran the show (literally fun to watch) at GSU. Don't get me wrong CPJ was in charge of HIS offense and the play calling. One of my knocks on Sewak was he didn't utilize the passing game more effectively as the HC.

Realize that while you look at these stats Ugag has more schollys to offer than GSU so depth is and was a big issue. GSU ran for for almost 300 yards :wow: and Ugag had no answers on defense. The then DC for Ugag VanGorder was livid but very frustrated.

I don't know which guy CPJ will settle on at QB but if that guy has a good handle on the offensive scheme (he should after 10 games) coupled with an decent arm Ugag will leave the field dragging their tails.:D I'm assuming, of course, we can field a respectable defense.

BTW, just as Yellow Fever I am also a new GT fan...sorry. You can take some solitude in the fact, however, that we all hate Ugag.

It's not the offense that can beat ugag, it's the coach. Chan's offense coudl have beaten ugag, but he wasn't able to get his team to perform. I think CPJ has a better idea of how to motivate college athletes and how to get them to perform on Saturday. The offense is simply how he gets it done.

Agreed. Don't know but suspect some of Erk Russell rubbed off on CPJ. You may have noticed I said about Sewak "One of my knocks" but he is a very nice guy and a good position coach IMHO.

Well how about that. CPJ today in another AJC article.

"Right now, of the guys playing Bryce is the most efficient, and he makes the offense most efficient," Johnson said. "That's the ultimate goal. If he's the most efficient we'll play Bryce."

"And I think Josh throws it better than people think. If we can do what I'd like to there's going to be some people running wide open."
