Do you think a bigger stadium would increase the program's national awareness?

Re: I took issue with the initial comment that suggests...

Those teams also finish ranked every year and sell out their existing 85,000+ seat stadiums.

We do not finish ranked and do not sell out our 55,000 seat stadium.

So let's do that and pay for the existing one first.
It seems like a cycle though.

Recruits like the bigger stadiums and atmospheres therefore the teams get better recruits, win more games, and are able to sell out the stadium.

Sure......say you don't agree that these teams are national powers but you do not address the morbid mindset of many GT affiliated people. You, sir, are a coward.

A couple of thoughts:
1) GT has been much louder for opponents the past two years than in years past...particularly last year. We also tend to be much louder at night .

2) The reason VT is so loud is not so much the stadium design. It is because they are just another school that fills their stadium with rednecks from all over because there is absolutely nothing to do withing 2 hours any direction of Blacksburg, VA....so the mountain men grab their moonshine and head to the game!

If you've ever been to VT, then you would know it IS because of the stadium design. They only seat 55K, and their fans are loud, but it sure as hell is much louder due to the steep incline of the bowl shaped stadium which projects sound down on the field.

First we have to solidify our own fanbase. That means people who own season tickets use them. I'm tired of showing up to big games to see that half the Tech fans around me sold their tickets on ebay to the opponents fans. That is a REAL problem that the club seat locations did, and although I sit in the club seats, I wish they would knock them down and bring back a good student section right behind the enemies bench.

Second, we have to consistently fill our own stands and the only way you do that is to build on the fanbase you have. DRad gets it, and the marketing that has recently been implemented will take a little bit of time to show some results.

Third, we have to pay down our debt and the GTAA has to start making a profit. If we don't, we may as well tie our hands behind our back.

So to answer your question, Rome wasn't built in a day. We cannot afford to build on BDS until we pay off the old renovation. Second, it makes no sense to do so until we feel comfortable that we can consistently fill those seats with OUR fans.
