Does anyone think we\'ll see staff changes?

I know, we've /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dead_horse.gif for a while. But lets just get the record straight and see what page everyone is on. I HOPE to see changes to the ST coach, QB coach, and OC (either letting Nix be the OC or getting a new one, either way, but a change) at the very least... I'm also not sure who coaches the DBs, and if they need a change or not, but they sure could use some more tackling fundamentals.

I think that NONE of this will happen. We'll lose a position or two to other programs or maybe a spot in the pros, but I don't see any of these lynchpin (spelling?) positions changing. I hope I'm wrong though.

Re: Does anyone think we\'ll see staff changes?

I agree with you RP, the OC needs to be priority #1 (either hire a new one or let Nix call it full time), but not far behind are special teams and the secondary's weakness of getting burned on skinny posts (Nut Bowl, NC St, VT two years ago stand in my mind). But again the OC is the main priority if we can get our offense to perform like our defense we are a top ten team.

Re: Does anyone think we\'ll see staff changes?

Sorry let me answer the question with a "yes", the Emerald Bowl debacle maybe a blessing in disguise and might be what brings about an OC change.

Re: Does anyone think we\'ll see staff changes?

Well, Tenuta is actually the DB coach...that is his specialty and what he coached at Ohio State, so I don't think we'll see any change there.

I think we'll see a change at ST. I would hope something else happens on offense but who knows.

Re: Does anyone think we\'ll see staff changes?

yeah, no changes there then with Tenuta, I realize that DBs are the weak point in the JT offense, and they're almost always in position to make the plays, just seems all too often they try to ram the guy down instead of wrapping up... damn kids spoiled by the NFL big hits /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugher.gif

Re: Does anyone think we\'ll see staff changes?

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear, I was talking just about the secondary's tendency to get beat on the post not Tenuta's position in particular.

Re: Does anyone think we\'ll see staff changes?

Honestly, I do not think we will see staff changes. History shows the cg is not one for change.

What needs to be done in order of prioritey:

1. A true OC
1B. New ST coach
2. New QB coach
3. New OL Coach(say what you want but the OL play got worse through out the year)

If 1 and 1B are not done cg should be shown the door ASAP.

Re: Does anyone think we\'ll see staff changes?

Maybe some of you have who have been following the board longer than I have can answer this question:

I thought the rumor mill had it that CG offered a top name person the OC job at GT for this season but was turned down?

Is there any cred to this rumor? If so there are alot of positive implications...

Re: Does anyone think we\'ll see staff changes?

Supposedly David Cutcliffe had agreed to be the OC last year but then had a heart attack. He's recovered but TN has come calling and that's where he will be next year. Don't know for sure if it's true but that was the story.

Re: Does anyone think we\'ll see staff changes?

I have heard the rumor to from many a focer about David Cutcliff. Honestly I do not believe any agrement was in place. I think it was all just a smoke screen.

Re: Does anyone think we\'ll see staff changes?

I still don't get the true OC comments. Chan has made a decision to act as his own OC. Just like Rodriquez, Richt and others. He's not going to turn that loose unless he finds someone he trusts completely.

I can understand people who don't like how our offense has performed because I don't either. But I'm fascinated by this idea that someone separate from the HC has to handle the offense. Granted it's the norm, but why would we think it would magically solve anything? Do we think spending more time on offense would make the qb make better throws?

I think we'll see a new ST coach. Don't know about anything else.

And how many times has cg's O averaged more that 21 points a game? How many times has cg's O been ranked at the bottom third of the NCAA?

Richt and Rodriguez as both the HC and OC have won their confrencs, played in BCS bowls, and not been ranked at the bottom of the NCAA in O the last 4 years.

Do you really think the O is going to improve while cg is the OC?

The only positive to cg being the OC is that it may speed up the termination process.

Re: Does anyone think we\'ll see staff changes?

Richt and Rodriguez have been successful Div 1-A OCs within the last few years. Chan has never been a Div 1-A OC. He does not understand the college passing game. Friedgen prefers college because he knows that you can get away with things in the passing game that the skill level of NFL defenses prevent. Chan does not understand this, and he needs to bring someone in to teach him-but he is too stubborn to admit that he doesn't know everything.

But, I forgot, you believe that it's all Reggie's fault that we do not have a top notch offense.

Re: Does anyone think we\'ll see staff changes?

I never said it's all Reggie's fault, but I do think he adds to our problems with his bad habits and lack of accuracy.

My point is that some coaches are successful combining the HC and OC responsibilities, and that simply saying it won't work makes no sense. As I also said, if you believe Chan's offense won't work, you're basically saying we need a new HC. That's fine if that's what you mean. But I don't know why we think Chan would hire someone with an entirely different idea of how an offense should run and turn over control to him. I don't think that will happen.

Re: Does anyone think we\'ll see staff changes?

No. I do not believe any major staff changes will take place. As in, no new OC, no new special teams, etc. I just don't see it happening.

On a side note, why is it that every other program seems to have more visability/willingness to talk about these things? Am I just making it up, or is GT just really hush hush? Seems to me if there were problems at UGAg, FSU, Clemson, etc, it would be all over the news, and people from the school, mainly the AD and HC would be talking about it. Yet for us, you never really hear anything. Why is that?

Re: Does anyone think we\'ll see staff changes?

I agree about the ST coach as a number one priority and a QB coach would be my second choice. Chan's system can work I believe when he gets an experienced, deep offensive line. His system is not built around scoring 50 points a game like a spread offense thus those wanting to see a wide open offense under Chan will be waiting for a long time.

Just because that's what our leadership thinks of the fan base, and because it has worked before.
Braine thinks the big problem is the fans. His style can be labeled as "Ignore and Dissolve".

I am pretty sure the first 4 years here GT had above average OL. The results were the same as this year.

Re: Does anyone think we\'ll see staff changes?

GTAA has a very bunker mentality now, I dont know how long its been that way, but unless you're real friendly with your ticket rep, AND they're in the know (doesnt happen too often) you aren't getting any info out as just another fan.

Thankfully I still know kids in school, and some of my friends were very highly connected when they were students, so I can still hear bits an pieces, but with the (little) info I get I still feel like its less than what other schools/coaches talk about at press conferences.

I think its a big back lash from the heavily involved boosters of the last 25-30 years and that leading to problems, so they cut of the arm to prevent the finger from causing any damage.

I see what you\'re saying...

but I really dont see how any of it helps. If we are in the market for new personnel, why dont we let it be known? And if we aren't, just come out and say it so the fanbase at least hears it, and doesnt have to speculate for the next few months. If they just came out and said their intentions, and reasoning behind it, I would feel much more confident in things, either way.
