Does Seminoles Have Internal Problems?

The ACC Area Sports Journal reports that Alonzo Jackson had to be forcibly removed from the locker room by his teammates after accusing the coaches for the meltdown. The article went on to indicate that some of the problems with the team
was the coaches sticking with Rix at the expense
of the young QB McPherson. I read in the papers
earlier in the week that the FSU coaches was benching Rix in favor of the kid which makes you wonder who is in control of the team. This happened to us under Bill Lewis and I certainly
hope we will not be confronted with this problem
with our QBs. This seems to be a racial thing with FSU now just as it was with us back then.I want to see the Seminoles do badly but I don't like seeing disharmony. This may be our best chance to beat the Seminoles in a long time.

Why the hell would we be confronted with such a problem? There is ZERO evidence of unrest on our team, Big Buck. Why are you hunting trouble?

Big Buck and BeeWare are both hunting for problems they hate Gailey so much. Why not stir up/make up race relation rumours?

Only an idiot would deny that some controversy exist because our coaches refuse to play our young QB with any degree of frequency. Hell, the debate is going on on both boards about the desire to see Bilbo see more action. Uga is playing their young QB despite having a starter with glowing statistics. The kids on the team know what is going on and they can tell if their teammates
are being given the short end of the stick. Race is just one of the problems at FSU according to the article but another hot button issue is religion." The article said that insiders will tell you that the team is divided between those who profess their religious faith and those who put football at the top of their priority list.
The article said that Bowden required his players to be exposed to his faith through mandatory church visits. Team chaplain Clint Purvis remains a visible presence on the sideline, offering counsel and support throughout games and long afterwards. Players including Rix, kicker Xavier Beitia, OL Kevin Emanuel and LB Michael Boulware gravitate toward Purvis and the spiritual element. Others, including Docket, Johnson and LB Kendyll Pope, do not go about their daily lives in similar manner. Not surprisingly, the dividing line on the QB issue is similarky split among the players. The potential crux of the problem, however, is that the coaching staff largely takes its religious cue from Bowden, and they are the ones making the decisions on playing time. It will be interesting to watch this entire situation
play out. "Quotation marks indicate where I began
quoting the artcle. The article also said that Bowden promised that there would be plenty of meetings this week, with staff and players, in an attempt to sort out the current. This same paper quoted Chan several months ago as saying " I would
rather be a good influence on young men than to win games." My personal feelings is that neither
Fla. State or GT has hired these coaches to evangelize these young men. I appreciate spiritual influence as much as anyone but this is not the proper forum for that especially when the
coach uses this as a yard stick for playing time.

The problem I have with you Buck is that are speculating that there must be something wrong between the players on the team and the coaching staff, and this isn't the first time. Where is any shred of evidence? Are kids complaining? Are they pointing fingers on the sideline? Can you point to a single thing to back up these fantasies of yours?

I couldn't care less about FSU or Saint Bobby. If they are having problems it's theirs to deal with. I just get infuriated by some of the crap you keep posting. Chan said he wanted to be a good influence on his players and now that's some evil attempt to evangelize the team? You really need to see somebody.

NCjacket, I saw the team quit against Maryland which very much reminded me of the Virginia debacle BL first year. This year has been a mixed bag as far as CG is concerned. An inordinate amount of injuries is the only factor that could explain our shortcomings but so many times we have been confused and obviously not on the same page. Sounds like poor coaching to me.

Hysteria on these boards is not relevant to what's happening and not happening on the team, and "only an idiot" would think that it is.

Big Buck, my take on the issue you brought forward:

I think the coach is hired for a dual purpose, to coach the players in the skills of football in an attempt to make the school a winner in football. The second purpose is to make sure the players are taken care of in a manner that is in line with the expectations of the parents.

There definitely should be some guidelines of discipline set up by the coaches to insure the unity of the football team, and a chance for each individual player to become as good of a citizen as he can become.

The coach's own personal religious beliefs will be displayed by the way he disciplines himself and the players assigned to him. There is no need for rules pushed on any player to force him to conform religiously one way or the other.

However, there must be a code of conduct obeyed by all the players that will reflect positively on the team. All players must be made to realize their collective conduct will have an effect on the team.

When a player breaches the code of conduct, he must be dealt with to insure the team is not hurt by his further disobedience of those codes. Most coaches, with a strong faith in God, will normally try to influence the young men only through the life and values he exhibits to the players.

It would seem very unwise for a coach to force his beliefs on any individual with mandatory church attendance. True, that has happened in the past across the land, but is taboo in today's society. I doubt if we try to do that at Tech, and I am not sure Bowden forces this ultimatum at FSU.

I bet there are some very rigorous rules at the Air Force, Army, and Navy.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Bobbie Bowden takes his players to a black church and a white church once a year as a team.
As bellyseries says, what has any of this to do with our team? We have issues with coaching and execution but I do not see any issue with harmony.

Seems like a specious argument. Dadgum Bobber may have a discipline problem "down there." I don't know but speculating that there may be some kind of derision over their staff's religious beliefs and prejudices over playing time is a reach.

Conversely, there's been no reports of Chan's religious faith being an issue at TECH at all. All we know is that apparently he's a christian and a decent man. Sounds good to me!

Smells like some sort of a screwy, partisan postulation.

Buck, you'll notice I didn't say anything about results on the field or coaching. I was trying to say that you are just plain making stuff up, unless you have some evidence you haven't shown us. Until I hear from someone with ties to the team about dissension among the players I'll continue to believe you just like to stir things up. I can understand not being a fan of a particular coach, but some of the things you speculate about are damaging to the team and school. Makes one wonder about your motives.

Agree with Bellyseries. No evidence of these type of problems at Tech. I've questioned the staff, but to take the leap to this extreme is pure speculation and not founded on anything. In fact, the team displayed the most emotion on Sat. vs. UVa that they have in the last two years.

Not that I care, but FSU has been heading down the path of mortality for over two years. First, they've had a drain of assistant coaches, which is taking its toll on preparation, strategy, etc. Lets face it, Bowden Jr. is in over his head as a coordinator. Second, the schedule is tougher. Iowa State, Notre Dame, even Louisville at home in a hurricane are much tougher than some of the cream puffs of the past. Third, the ACC is upgraded in its ability to test them. Maryland, NC State have legitimate shots, whereas two three years ago they not only had to worry about one team, us, but one player, Joe Hamilton. Whatever you think about them, and I dont like them, FSU has had one constant - Bowden. To think he is suddenly loading religion on his players differently than the past is nuts. This has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with offense, defense and kicking. In the end, who cares anyway? Just dont start that rumor stuff about Georgia Tech. To hell with FSU and by all means To Hell With Georgia.
