Don't Understand This

Well, he's past his prime and has a huge contract for starters.

I think most would like to keep him if he took a significant pay cut.

Falcons fans are stupid. When KB and Patrick Kerney were their 2 high profile players all people did was criticize them, even though they were the 2 most productive people on the team. They let Kerney walk and he makes the pro-bowl with Seattle. No it's not the fact that the other 9 guys do nothing, it's the best players fault for not being Superman. (TIC) It would be stupid to let KB walk, he's gonna take a lower salary, he's indicated that, he's not the player he was 5 years ago, but he brings a lot of experience and there aren't better options, and if they put a young guy at WLB you'll have NO experience in your LB corps. Luckily actual football people are making the decisions now for the Falcons.

Some of it is racism, I've been hearing Brooking called "the great white hype" for at least the last 3 or 4 years. The other reasons are the points already made by people on here.

I think your right, all the Vick apologists would say Brooking was the problem. It's laughable. We've been hearing crap about KB for years, all the while he's playing out of position in the Middle and leading the team in tackles and getting voted to Pro-Bowls by real football people. He has one bad game in Arizona and now everybody is jumping on that bandwagon. It really ticks me off. Stuff like this is why CFB > NFL!

What have you done for me lately is most fan's motto -- and for most fans, all they can remember about KB is that last play against Arizona, when he bit on the short route -- and Arizona got the first down.

Absolutely, he got blasted on talk radio after that game, if that play had not happened I think the general feeling about him may be different.

I love KB, even wear his white jersey for the Falcons games. But if Dimitrof (sp?) lets him go, I trust he's doing what's best for the Falcons. I think some of it's racial, as far as fans hating him. But I think a lot of it is UGA Falcon fans that naturally dislike him because of his Tech roots. They're just jealous because our white defensive NFL guys don't have weak necks.

Keith Brooking's 2008 season: 0 sacks, 0 fumbles, 0 interceptions, 0 pass break-ups

I like KB a lot. In fact, I've always been a GT fan and was not really a big Falcons fan, but starting pulling for the Falcons when they picked up KB. But I think he is past his prime. The Arizona game was only one example. He's had 12 great years, but I think its time for the Falcons to move on.

Who are you going to replace him with? Most people who are saying this, aren't considering his replacement. Careful what you wish for.

As for those stats, how many times did he blitz? I'm not blindly defending him here, he certainly has lost some abilities, but your not gonna have to pay him like you did on his last contract. Depending on his asking price, he could be very valuable to a young LB corps and team. I'd be more worried about replacing Michael Boley than KB. You don't want to replace both starting OLBs in the same year, when your only returner is a 2nd year guy, that's stupid.

I think they should resign him if they can get him to take a nice little pay cut, and then draft a OLB in the first round.

Fixed

Total sacks by LB corps: 2, very few 4-3 LBs are getting significant Sack numbers around the league
Total INTs by LB corps: 1

Total Tackles by KB: 102, I'm no expert my self but it's probably not a good general practice to voluntarily replace your perennial leading tackler, that's probably one of those things you want to have somebody earn by play on the field.

I am a fan of KBs but raw number of tackles may not be the best measure either if your defense is built to funnel the plays to a particular position. I don't know if that is the case. It would be like praising a guy who scores 20 ppg in basketball while ignoring that he may be shooting 40% to do it.

lol at the idea that it's racism

He was never the quickest guy, and he's a step slower now. You can say that people only remember Arizona, but the fact is he was a liability all season. The only reason he may stay is because he's the guy on defense with the radio and that would be legitimately hard to replace. His performance would not be.

It's time to move on.

I was kinda trying to make that same point about the sacks. He was not asked to get to the QB in our Defense this year. I only through the tackles out as a counter to mister cherry picking negative stats.I think people are kidding themselves if they think we can draft Brian Cushing or someone, plug him in, and think it's all gonna just work.
I'd much rather have my LB corps be:
Brooking, Lofton, Cushing
than
Cushing, Lofton, Boley/Nicholas

But thankfully, if you watch interviews with Dimitroff and Smith, all indications are they're gonna resign KB if he asks for a reasonable salary. I'm not real worried about it with the current leadership making the decisions, it would just be nice if fans would wise up.

nobody said he wasn't declining(in fact I specifically said he was), but he's also not going to make near as much.

who would you replace him with?
who would you put at the other OLB position?

Jeez. This post is just bad.

I am both white, and a Georgia Tech student, and think his time should be up.

And making fun of David Pollack here is wrong, and inappropriate. I don't care where he went to school...you don't make fun of someone break his neck.
