DRad email about GT/UGA game (new stuff)

Ok, I understand perfectly. Having determined exactly what we are, we now just dickering over the price. Exactly how much money is fan support worth? Why even have a home stadium? Just play the game where ever and when ever the highest bidder wants it. What a bunch of crap.

So you don't think adjusting the schedule to get ugag and Clemson/VT on alternating years is a good idea? If there's a way to do it and make some extra cash for one year why the angst? If you're upset with college athletics being about the dollars you should just stop watching/following any team.

Ever wore gold in Athens on Tech's gameday? It's pretty damn bad.
yes i have. and no it hasn't been bad.

i have had instances on non-game days but thats b/c i'm not afraid to talk **** back.

man up. this perception that it's SO TERRIBLE keeps people from going to a great game.

maybe it's different for me because i know a large family(brother-in-laws) that have been going for years and i tailgate with them.

and i guess if you're a loner i guess i could see some ppl ganging up...

but i've found if you're nice to people, they'll be nice back. someones an ass..."HOPE YOU HAVE A GOOD GAME!" them and they'll look like fools.

edit--noticed a bunch of your other posts....sounds like your trips are A LOT worse than mine.

I don't follow things as closely as many here, but DRad seems like he knows what he is doing. I like that he explained some of the reasoning behind why the game would be good for Tech rather than some generic "were looking into it" statement. I trust the guy to make a good decision.

D-Rad knows what he's doing, and what he's doing is, like demjackets said, making money for Georgia Tech. Not only would this be a financial windfall for the one-off game in the Dome, but we would also feel the financial benefit of getting U[sic]GA in the even years opposite Clemson and VT. This is a win-win for the AA.

There are two reasons this might not happen:

1) If Georgia, not as financially strapped as us, might not want to do it. I doubt this is the case since the talks have been progressing and based on comments made by Evans.

2) If Georgia Tech's big name donors have more sway than we think. From a Tech fan's perspective, this move would blow in every way. It would make us much less likely to win thanks to the QB situation in '11, it would basically be an away game, it would be breaking tradition, and so much of our year is predicated on the Georgia game that it would really make the next 11 games a letdown.

We'll see if the people in high places in GT have a lot of sway, but I think D-Rad is going to do everything in his power to make this happen, and I think it will, unfortunately.

I agree I have never had a problem there, and I am a loud, drunk, bastard on game days, granted Ive only been once when we won when the goose got loose and the stadium and town were at about half capacity, but every other time it wasnt bad at all . I can remember going up there one weekend when they got smoked by Auburn , and I was singing the Auburn fight song the whole night and I dont think anyone said anything to me all night even though i was being a huge jackass.

i agree that it isn't THAT bad in athens on gameday. i kind of wish it was, but honestly they still don't take us seriously yet.

i just started grad school here at ugag after graduating from tech in may. everybody ive met here knows im a hard core tech fan and i really don't hear any sh*t about it. you might say yeah but its grad school blah blah. well most of the people in my major graduated undergrad from ugag too.

i also have my explorer loaded down with tech stuff and ive never heard so much as a word from anybody. i park in the middle of campus. i go downtown all the time. nothing. not so much as a word. the only people who ever even acknowledge me being a tech fan are my friends that i know over here.

hopefully once we beat them again this maybe i'll get some sh*t talked to me. i look forward to the day.

I can't believe I just read that.

I don't have a problem with playing one year at the Dome if we don't loose a home game, but I have a HUGE problem with playing at the beginning of the season. I totally get trying to switch the year of our home game w/ U[sic]Ga but not if we have to play them in the 1st game. Let's see if ASC and Chick-Fil-A would be interested in sponsering our game at the Dome on Thanksgiving weekend as a Wrap-Up the regular season game. I would support that.

DRad knows how to do his job, and he does it very well. His job is to have GTAA make money. That's great for the school, but it's not necessarily great for the fans, tradition, etc. In this case, it BLOWS.

Seriously, the Georgia game as the first game of the season? Clean-Old Fashioned Hate on Day 1 and then.....what next? We play Jacksonville State at home and travel to BC? How in any way is that going to be a good, exciting season. What an absolutely horrible idea. I didn't realize we were that desperate for cash.

Long term this is a good thing.

1) It's a ONE YEAR deal. Please quit acting like it is the end of the world. Perhaps they could set this up so GT and UGA have specific separate parking areas.

2) A lot of Tech fans (me included) have continually b@#!#$d, whined and moaned about the opening game at the Georgia Dome (Home Depot Kickoff Classic, I believe). We have all heard the excuses: The other teams are getting exposure to recruits from our backyard. If we played in the game we would lose a home game. blah, blah, blah.

If we want to be part of this dance, and the money and exposure that comes with it, then we have to deal with it, FOR ONE YEAR.

3) Take a look at next year's Home schedule. NCSU, UVA, The U, Puke, MTSU and SC state. Anyone looking forward to that prime schedule? No, I thought not. The thought of moving one of the Big 3 draws, CU, VT or UGA away from the same year is VERY appealing as it gives us at least two BIG home games each year. Year 1: Clemson and VT. Year 2 Miami and Georgia.

4) We have 7 home games presently scheduled for 2011. If this deal happens we still have six on the flats.

5) Did I mention it is just ONE YEAR?

Engineers are supposed to be creative and inventive. Think outside the box men, think outside the box.

You're right, U[sic]GA is the only team in the SEC. We have to play them and them only in this game. F*cking A, put us vs UT or Auburn or Ole Miss or ANY OTHER TEAM in it one year and Georgia vs. Clemson or VT or FSU or ANY OTHER TEAM the next year.

I wouldn't have a problem at all if they moved to the Dome in 2011, providing they did it the week of Tech-Georgia at the end of the year....that way you could go back to Tech in '12 and get things on the schedule DRad wants...surely there isn't anything going on in the Dome the Saturday before the SEC Championship is there? And surely the Dome would accomodate that with how bad they've been hurting for money.......I just don't want it the first game of the year...

And what in the hell is so generous about ugag that they will give up their home game in athens vs GT in 2012?

What is going to be given to them to make this happen?

Make the asshole swofford rearrange our game with CU, even if we have to play there 2iar.

They're not giving up anything. It's just being pushed back a year. Don't forget they'll make money off of this too via TV and ticket sales, plus probably a cut of concessions, and it will essentially be a home game for their team and fans, just not played in Athens.

I still think the idea sucks after reading everything everyone has said. To me, "just one year" is a big deal. Hope we all enjoy the game at BDS this season since we may not have a home game versus Georgia there again for three years. "But we're not losing a home game; it's just being delayed." Yeah, okay. See you in three years.

I do agree with whomever said that the first-of-the-year part is worse than the Ga Dome part, assuming that it is just the one year. But I guess CFA would think it's harder to get attention and viewers when you're up against Auburn-Alabama and Texas-Texas A&M and Florida-FSU and whatever else could be the same day.

The whole thing sucks and I hope we don't let it happen, not even for "just one year."

:wow: What will those athens merchants, restaurants, parking lots, hotels say in 2012?

And if we play that game at BDS in 2012, when it was supposed to be played in athens, how are they not giving up a home game? Pushing back to us, giving up to them.

What will they be given to give up a home game in 12?

Why would they even want to accomodate GT?

We must make the asshole swofford do something.

I'd like to see us do this game but I want a different opponent. I'd love South Carolina,Tennessee or Auburn.
Give UGAy whoever the next year...

Most if not all in state rival games are the last two weeks each and every year. This gives both sides the whole year to trash talk and bring it the last week.
It just wouldn't be the same if for only one year.

++++++++++++

I'd love love love love love to play in that game, just not against Georgia.
