Dumpster Fire at Auburn

I agree. The term “rock star” is idiotic. I’ve been to many rock concerts and read many biographies of rockers. The majority of rockers are petty people who feel entitled and generally unpleasant human beings. The very fact that a thinking person would use the term “rock star” to describe someone shows a lack of descriptive abilities.
Great post.

As a poster here, you're a rock star!

That place has been a dumpster fire since Malzahn got shown the door. The whole coaching probe last year was just weird.

Harsin Coaching record: 82–31 Collins Coaching record: 24-35
Not sure we could get a coach like Harsin to come to Tech, but if he was interested we would be stupid not to talk to him!

Given our circumstances, Harsin may make for an interesting candidate. He can coach, just question whether he has the gravitas to recruit and lead a southern college football program. My experience is Midwest football culture is different…not bad…just different.

Urban Meyer went from Utah to Florida and was successful, the current situation at Auburn has more to do with the Boosters than it does Harsin, they ran off Gus, they ran off Bo Nix and they just ran off the AD.... Just craziness on the Plains right now.

And they will run off Harsin. They didn't like Harsin from day 1. It was weird, they wanted Gus gone and then were sour on Harsin almost immediately.

It’s not craziness. It’s what should happen when a fanbase wants to win. We are just use to doing nothing while everything burns down to 3 win seasons or we are happy with 7 win seasons. Auburn has a fanbase that cares and they will keep doing “crazy” until they win. I wish GT would. We can laugh at the Florida‘s and Auburn’s as they continually move around the pieces but at least they are trying. They’ll also get it right at some point and win big. After the Collins years we’ll find a coach who can get us back to winning 7 a year and will sign him to a 20 year renewable Hewitt contract. And Auburn will win more games than we do this year yet they are the “crazy” ones.

I don’t think our fans are the problem. We have been doing a pretty good job of not showing up and sustained bitching. The problem is the money guys haven’t had enough yet. And when they do care, they make horrible decisions in what they push for with their influence.

Agreed. Accept Auburn fans are so adamant and loud that they don’t let their admin off the hook like we do. We see post after post of our own fans giving excuse after excuse for 3 years of total ineptitude. And the words “transition” and “Covid” are used over and over as if no else had to ever deal with these issues. The stadium will speak volumes this season when it’s either empty or sporting opposing teams colors. I hope Collins wins big here at GT going forward. And I’ll cheer when we win. But there was no excuse for the past 3 seasons.

I believe it is insane to “try” to be successful in the current environment of college football. There I said it. Furthermore it is morally wrong.

Unfortunately our fan base likes to put that energy and craziness into being the smartest and best grades. It’s really enraging to see as a sidewalk fan.

B.S. Our fan base generally is frustrated with the Hill and it has nothing to do with "the smartest and best grades". Not that those aren't important attributes at Tech!

Almost no one on the Hill is a Tech grad and they are focused on what is best for their careers instead of what is best for Tech. In addition, most are not interested in athletics.

We finally have a Tech grad as president. Unfortunately, I do not see any evidence to this point that he cares about our success in major D1 athletics.

They make LSU fans seem almost rational.

It was not always thus. I think being ass raped by Nick Satan for the past 14 years and watching him win Natty after Natty has made them insane.

What are you talking about? Do you think being a Tech student makes you a Tech football fan and part of the "fan base?"

Most Tech students are there to get degrees for their future careers. about half are not from the state of Georgia and an increasing number grew up in Asia. Many/most could not give a öööö about college football. What's wrong with that?

I was a football fan for more than a decade before I ever even applied to Georgia Tech. Saw my first college football game in person almost ten years before attending Tech. Couldn't care less about Georgia Tech football before I matriculated . . . only things I ever knew about Tech football were Cumberland, the "Wrong Way" Reigels Rose Bowl, Bobby Dodd, and Eddie McAshan, I'm a Tech football fan because I was ALREADY a college football fan before I attended Tech. College is expensive. I went to Tech for the engineering education, not the football, and sure as öööö not for "fun." And I'm pretty sure the vast majority of current Tech students went there for the same reason. If I had to choose between Tech continuing to be a great educational institution, or Tech having a great football program, that would not be a hard call for me. Or the vast majority of Tech students and alumni, I bet.

If you're expecting some great outpouring of support for Tech's football team from the Tech student population, I think you're in for a world of disappointment.

Morally wrong? MORALLY wrong?!? Please to explain that one. TIA!
