What kind of dumb ass, dumbing down post is that about UGA? You must be from damn Newark, NJ. Are you even from Georgia? Did you grow up with this rivalry? What the #$@! are you talking about? Do you know anyone that went to UGA? Do you understand how instate recruiting works? Your viewpoint is about as ignorant as they come. Thanks for whipping it out and taking a grand ole pee on over 100 years of tradition.

Let me explain this as simple as I can. UGA is #1 most important game every year. Why?? Well lets look at this year in particular. We are going to the ACCG in a year where most experts believe the entire ACC is down. This is what I said in another thread...

In two weeks we play UGA. And I don't give a shit about any game prior to that one. I'm going to say this as plain as day... for this fan, Beating UGA THIS YEAR is imperative. Do so, and we justify our record and season. Lose it, and we were just a good team in a weak conference who failed again to beat our rival. All the pressure is on GT to win the game. UGA's got nothing to lose.

In my opinion, if we don't beat UGA, we really didn't accomplish anything more than what we've done in past seasons other than the fact that we'll go to the ACCCG and if we win, we'll have won a hollow crown.

I want to see actual improvement by this coaching staff and frankly, that means beating UGA. We lose to UGA and win the ACCCG, that will confirm that this season was just an aberation. That the ACC was littered with bad to average teams and we just happened to be slightly above average and took advantage of a down year.

To say that the UGA game does not matter either one of two things is true...

1..) You are a God Damn idiot who lives in a hole somewhere above the mason dixon line.
or
2.) You are a Dawg fan trying to make the rest of us complacent.

So which is it?

Wow have anger do we?
I understand where you are coming from though. However, Like I said in another thread, forget about who we play, let's just beat the hell out of them!

Technically, Dust Jacket is right. But for national perception, fan support, and recruiting, UGA is huge.

Anger works... anger is good... but I'm not angry. I just like posting with authority. I have no soft spot for stupid people. A Tech fan should know better than to say something like that.

I agree. When did the UGA game become a means to an end?

I'm sorry, but A UGA WIN IS THE FREAKING END. It's state domination. It's the pride you value as you interact with UGA fans day in and day out. And it's the schadenfreude in seeing the miserable dogs suffer.

It also has the nice side effects of better in-state recruiting and fan support. Losing the ACCCG will affect recruiting far less than losing to UGA, especially within the state of Georgia. And, despite the talk that we "recruit nationally," we will not be able to build a sustainably powerful program without recruiting very well locally. Only one team in the nation can do that, and we aren't them.

No, DustJacket isn't even "technically" right.

The most basic, dumbed-down, simple goal is "Win" which makes each and every game important. No game, no matter what is "unimportant" and cannot "technically be unimportant." It would have to be an exhibition game to begin considering the possibility of a lack of importance.

But we have no exhibition games.

Our goal is to win. Against Samford. Against Duke. Against Clemson. Against Georgia. Against everyone.

After you have laid the basis of the game, you then may add on top of it all those things which make it a rivalry or a touted match-up, but you cannot take away the foundation-

Win, because that is what matters.

3. I am more interested in national recognition than state recognition...

In this day and age, compared to the ACC Championship and the Orange Bowl, the UGA game aint shit... learn to live with it. This aint the 50s...

You guys are worshipping UGA like they sit on a pedestal.. They dont. Their fans are freaking hayseeds and their athletes arent too bright. They are nothing but a freaking 'W' in our column and I wouldnt care if they disbanded their football program. I dont live for the UGA game each year and never will.. ESPECIALLY a .500 uga team...

Orange Bowl win = 10000000x more value than UGA game and it always will..

Consider the dead horse resurrected.

DustJacket,

Do you realize how national perception will also be altered with a UGA loss? If we lose to UGA, then win the ACCCG and then lose the Orange, everybody will just consider this a crap year for the ACC. And even if we win the Orange Bowl, if its against the Big East champion, many will just consider that proof that the Big East still sucks.

On any kind of level, an ACCCG or Orange Bowl loss will hurt us much less than a loss against UGA.

They are nothing but a freaking 'W' in our column
A "W" we have not had since Chan arrived. It's time for Chan to make a clear, forceful statement and I believe this team is fully capable of doing just that.

I understand your argument about national exposure for GT and it's indeed admirable. But the old statement that all politics are local kinda applies here. The UGA game is just too close to home for most of us to ignore or classify as unimportant.

Actually, the Orange Bowl and every other accepted major meant a lot more yesterday than it does today, except for the year it hosts the NC game.

This year is no different than any other for either team. It is impossible for Tech or uga to have a truly successful year without a win at Thanksgiving. Georgia would have their success in ruining our season, and it would ruin our season at least to me.

The acc is a means to an end. That is, win it and go to a big bowl, but that is it.

Even if the Tech fan base in general eventually accepts your blasphemy, it will be another 50 years at least before all the die hards and their heirs move on.

TO HELL WITH GEORGIA!

Guess what dip shit... You don't make waves nationally without owning your local rival. Name me one God Damn nationally recognized team that doesn't own their State?

You're an imbecile. We win the orange Bowl and lose to UGA, we can forget nationally, because everyone from North Carolina down to Florida over to Louisiana and up to Arkansas are going to know we are sitting on a hollow crown.

Did you ever compete in your entire life in any sport, or were you as math wiz? You lack common sense. Its like you are trying to justify being a complete loser.

He says that "the UGA game is nothing," because beating an opponent with an inferior record won't do anything for our image.

He completely forgets to mention that football games generally have one of two outcomes, at least since the nineties. If, heaven forbid, we lost to UGAg, it would hurt us more significantly with them having a worse record.

So, losing to an non-ranked UGA team would hurt us big time. So, in my opinion, it's certainly not "nothing."

But, screw this logic anyway! I want to destroy UGAg because it's UGAg! I don't care if they're undefeated or winless, I want to beat them by multiple touchdowns every time. Of course the UGA game is huge, IT'S OUR BIGGEST RIVAL!!!

Sorry, I generally try to be pretty mild-mannered on these boards, but my disdain for the other team is getting the better of me.

Like I said before, let's not worry about what's most important. Let's just run the table and it won't matter, right?

GO JACKETS!

Dude, you gotta get laid or something. Really.

I seem to remember Florida fielding quite a few nationally recognized teams at the same time, despite no clear "owning", dip ****.

My humor has obviously gone unnoticed. But my point remains... even when Florida had nationally recognized teams, the only time they had a more nationally recognized team over FSU was when they beat them. In fact, wasn;t their 1 national championship in a rematch with FSU who had beaten them previously?

BOR, I think this is an offer.

Except in this case, UGA is not a nationally recognized team. What's their rank this year again?

So now you are equating UGA with one of the 3 FL programs??? What a leghumper worshipper you are. In the past 15-20 years UGA is a second tier program when compared to ANY of the FL programs.

I find it amusing that a lot of you guys want the game to mean something on the national scale, but you root for UGA to lose every game.. you can't have it both ways.. whining perpetual UGA victims...

Here I will put it in terms some of you guys can understand:

Khan had the genesis device.. Kirk was defeated.. Khan could have gone anywhere... ;)
