Each School's Greatest Player of the 21st Century...Yes, I did attend Ball State.

This may be true, but I will say that Herschel Walker changed the trajectory of Gagger football, and without him I don’t think they could’ve attained the success that they are currently experiencing.

Wut?

UGA proceeded to piddle around in the 80s after he left, doing nothing of significance until Dooley's retirement. Mostly mediocrity in the 90s under Goff and Donnan. UGA was always going to be successful, simply based on demographics, recruiting, and the population explosion of Georgia, and unfortunately only token competition from the only other FBS school in state.

Herschel is a footnote from a completely different world.

Herschel is the guy that led the way for every single (the next Herschel) to come to uGag. The things you mention sure as heck didn’t hurt and have contributed to the bonafide ‘factory stamp’ they have become. Not saying that uGag wouldn’t have become what they are today if he hadnt gone there, but they weren’t really relevant in the overall college football landscape until he arrived IMHO.

What is the definition here? Is it the Best College Player or best player overall.

Obviously Joe Hamilton was last century, but as much as I like Calvin Johnson, you still have Harrison Butker and Derrick Morgan standing out a bit. If it's just college, then Justin Thomas took us to a #4 ranking and of course Zack Mason at the end of his career was unstoppable.

Anyone nitpicking Calvin as Tech’s player is an idiot. Calvin is the best player this century by a mile.

Yeah, CFB and pro hall of fame - very few people to ever come through Tech have the credentials that Calvin does. Imagine if he’d had an accurate college QB and played for a good pro team…

Neither were any of the other SEC schools around then. Florida, Auburn, LSU, Tennessee, none of them were doing jack öööö back then. UGA rising up was an inevitable fact of demographics and American football culture and literally nothing to do with a one-off national championship in the early 80's. Even the friggin Mississippi schools have flashes of relevance these days. UGA just took the longest to put together the ridiculous advantages that they all have.

Best, probably. By a mile, no.

Kelly Campbell straddled the 21st century line. He leads CJ in receptions and is close in yards. But he played in a more dynamic offense than CJ. Kerry Watkins has a crapton of yards too. JSmith got some big numbers in the Chan offense too.

DT played in an offense with fewer pass opportunities, but comes in at #4 in yards. DT was a bigger % of total receiving yards.

CJ had his two biggest seasons when coupled with Tech #4 rusher (Choice). His freshman year CJ had #5 rusher PJ Daniels.

On defense, you have Tech’s sack leader (Attaochu) who had a limited number of snaps due to the triple option chewing clock. You also have #2 on the sack list with GGathers. Then you have respectable showings by Morgan, Henderson, and MJohnson.

Morgan Burnett landed himself #2 on the int list, again playing a limited number of snaps due to the option.

Calvin and it’s not even close. End of debate. Doesn’t mean we didn’t have other good players.

This list appears to be “most famous” player more than anything. Lots of choices on there don’t make any sense other than in terms of popularity.

And yes, I love Derrick Morgan and Shaq Mason, but Calvin may literally be the best receiver of all-time. He’d be the #1 choice at most schools on that list.

Calvin is the best athlete out of Georgia Tech this century period. Jarrett Jack in second place by a mile. I know not the purpose of this, but my two personal favorite Tech athletes when I was a student.

Tough call on the list of other names. My top-5 not named Calvin Johnson:

Demaryius Thomas
Morgan Burnett
Harrison Butker
Darren Waller
Shaq Mason

Subject to change any day due to sentimentality
