Eason taking an official visit to UF

I know it's funny and all because it's happening to UGA, but what a dumb rule.

"If they brought in a Georgia Tech-style system where they don’t want a quarterback like Jake, then no he’s not going to go there."

We're never going to recruit anyone with this system... Fire CPJ!!

Sounds a little like shenanigans, but if the kid decommits, it doesn't seem to me the school should be penalized. At least that severely. In our situation, for instance, if a kid commits, signs financial papers, but then doesn't qualify, should we be penalized? I get it if the intent is unlimited contact with the kid, but how can you prove intent on that.

I hope he goes to Michigan so we can pick up that option QB Harbaugh inked who was a GT Lean.

You could easily make the case that the financial aid was an inducement and essentially gave UGa an unfair advantage in his recruitment.

For example, what if we wanted to recruit him (in a world where Richt wasn't fired or in hot water) - UGa has him all sewn up - nobody even has a chance.

If he signs elsewhere then its not as if 'he just wanted to go to UGa no matter what' but clearly, the financial aid was nothing more than a recruiting ploy.

They should nail UGa to the wall over this.

Probably fair. I guess the whole issue would be proving intent. Probably need to modify the rule or not allow it.

You got a link for the facing of sanctions?

They won't be sanctioned. The sanctions kicked in on LSU because of the amount of contact they made with that recruit. Once a recruit signs those financial papers, the amount of contact you can make with said recruit is unlimited. However, if you do contact that recruit more than would normally be allowed and then he doesn't end up signing a LOI with you, only then will you face sanctions.

I'd say Richt's little midnight escapade into Eason's bedroom qualifies as more contact than usual. Maybe a lot more contact than we know.

You would be wrong. Head coaches are allowed one official visit to a recruit. It doesn't say where/when they can go.

Since he lives on the west coast, that was the first time Richt had gone there.

Who wouldn't want to gently stroke Eason's knightly looking hair while whispering tales of glory, discussing the symbolism in the hit film Twister, and whimpering over coming 5 yards short of a national championship? It's like the old saying goes, a coach and quarterback that cuddles together, wins games together.

I think Eason was planning to enroll at UGag in January, so that and the firing of Richt, might prevent any perception of wrongdoing. At this point, he would likely delay his enrollment until the fall, and sign a letter of intent in February. That way he could evaluate the new coaching situation in Athens before making a decision. It's interesting that a recruit could possibly influence the choice of a head coach.

Why would UGA face sanctions?

GO JACKETS!!
byteback

because they don't want financial papers to be pressure to a recruit that since he signed something he now has to commit. It can be viewed as dirty way to lock in a prospect. Good rule

And as far as having more contact than usual, Richt said he knew he would be losing his job after the Florida game, the visit to Eason came after that. Could be problematic, no?
