Eddie McAshan Award To Be Given After The Game …

I
I had no idea EM was still connected to the program (even if occasionally).

Turbulent times they were.

Time to bury the hatchet.
I hope Eddie stays connected to the program. Sure, what he did was a horrendous decision, a lot worse than breaking curfew or skipping class. On the flip side he had a good 4 year career at Tech except for that very last game. So sure … he is part of the GT family, that incident is 50 years in the past and is over with, but I don’t agree with having an award in his name. Thanks to Jesse Jackson … another situation he makes worse just so he can benefit. I have absolutely no respect for that man.

McAshan was a true pioneer as a starting black quarterback at a Southern school. He was a record setting passer. He made a mistake, in my opinion, casting his dissatisfaction with his ticket allocation as a racial slight. Not playing against Georgia and in the bowl game was a sad way to end a career. But, as was said earlier in this thread, if Eddie’s teammates have moved on and forgiven, the rest of us should, too. The spring football award in his name is fine with me.

Well, you're wrong. Forgive, forget fine, but you don't öööö on your teammates and school because you felt slightly wronged. You shouldn't get anything named after you.
You thought you were more important than everyone else and above the rules they allhad to follow.

How about something from Eddie himself. If he came out and said, "Man, I was wrong. Some people tried to influence me in a way that was devisive and I made a giant mistake in which I hurt my school, my teammates and myself. I've learned from it and have become s better person." You know that would go a long way.

Moving on isnt the same as celebrating a career that ended in such a big mistake. It sends the wrong message to future recipients and just keeps things going by reigniting the debate.
