This is taken from www.edsbs.com though it was pretty funny myself.:laugher:

We beg to differ. Chan Gailey, now coaching for the Kansas City Chiefs, needs a hug.
“I told the players: I don’t have any kind of magic offense,” Gailey said. “I don’t have any pixie dust that I sprinkle and all of a sudden we become good. We have to work at it. There’s nothing magic about what we’ve got.”
Au contraire! His offense always seemed fairly magickal to us. Especially the part where–POOF!–any chance to score or win instantly disappeared! Criss Angel wanted to know how you got so mindfreaky, Chan.

I saw that as well.

"I don't have any kind of magic offense." Couldn't be more true.

Edwards couldn’t help but laugh this week when asked to describe Gailey’s offense.
There’s no style or signature; it’s just simple and efficient — kind of like Gailey himself, Edwards said.
“I love Chan because he says: ‘Hey, I’m not a genius. Don’t label me a genius. I never wanted to be a genius. I’m just a football coach,’

Why do people insist on badmouthing Chan even now?

I wanted him gone too, but I think he tried his best to make our team better. It just didn't work out for us. It was frustrating, but he's no longer here now.

Well, it wasn't appropriate to bad-mouth him back then, because he was our coach. Now it's not appropriate to bad-mouth him because he's NOT our coach.

Just when are people supposed to bad-mouth him?

Wow - I actually agree with GTKyle. Good post my friend.

You should never bad-mouth him. It's one thing to criticize or disagree with what he did/does. But some took it another level and absolutely hated the man.

For as much money as he walked out of here with and the contributions I've paid...I'll bad mouth the Hell out of the SOB!!!

What's funny is that this was the first inappropriate post of the thread. Nobody was badmouthing him. We all recognize why he was gone and believe it or not it is okay to laugh about something he said and maybe poke a bit of fun at him or something he says.

Badmouthing would be "Looks like the idiot finally admitted what would have put him on the first train out of Atlanta four years ago. Remind me why this jackass was our head coach?"

That is badmouthing. You see, I know this because I spent Chan's entire tenure telling people who were saying things like that to shut the hell up.

If it's okay to have a little fun at the "expense" of other coaches, it's okay to have some at the "expense" of our former coach.

Jesus.

Edit: I hadn't seen Bunger post in a long time and I managed to convince myself that he wasn't posting because he had fallen asleep in the tub and drowned. And that he was dead. Forever.

Thanks Bunger. Thanks for ruining my day.

While I'm very happy he is gone and back to the NFL, you can blame Braine for the money not Chan, But I'm sure you know that already.

Point well made. How many of our erstwhile posters wouldn't gladly take "mo money" when offered?

Chan is absolutely a class individual, and absolutely not a college coach. I just don't think he can relate anymore with the college game. He's been NFL-ized. Win 10 games - you're in the playoffs. Get to the playoffs, you get a raise and you can win it all, even if you lost 6 games. Look at the Giants.

Problem is... you lose 2 games (most years) in college ball and you can barely win your conference, much less the MNC.

IMO, the NFL is more about superior execution, and college is more about superior preparation and emotion. Chan tried to run an NFL offense at Tech, but never got the athletes (especially at QB) to execute his offense well.

He will do well as an NFL OC again, and I wish him the best.

Chan's the man... in a NFL offense. As a Falcon fan, I'd loved Chan to take over as the OC. In the NFL, the talent is pretty even, and it's more about ball control and not turning it over. You take the lead and sit on it.

Bad-mouthing Chan just isn't fun because he is such a nice guy. Bad-mouthing Bunger is a whole lot of fun. :D:D:D

Who knows, in a couple of years we could be piling on Paul Johnson and wishing we had 7 wins. We've been down this road before.

Oh, how I missed those Chan Gailey quotables.

“I love Chan because he says: ‘Hey, I’m not a genius. Don’t label me a genius. I never wanted to be a genius. I’m just a football coach,’ ” Edwards said.

“We’re trying to score one more point than the other guy,” he said.

It often seemed like scoring 2 points more than the other guy was a failure, didn't it?

The selection of Gailey as our coach will always mistify me...
While he was, is, and always will be a class individual offensively our football team went backwards philosophically.
We had an avante-garde offense with multiple sets and options that created an exciting brand of football to watch and also to promote...
When Freidgen left and then O'leary the athletic department decided to choose a coach who taught an antequated offense that was non-inspirational and down right boring...
while the win totals are not that much different the excitement level has been worlds apart...
I believe that the offense coach Johnson will bring to our team will reignite the excitement that so many of us enjoyed week to week in the late 90's...
Win or lose I want our team to be exciting, to improve from game 1 to game 12-13 and to have the opportunity to compete week to week.

THWG!
