End of season optimism poll

More, same, or less optimistic about beating the Dwags now than you were in the pre-season?

More -- though not bc of GT but bc I've watched some UGA games this year and they've looked pretty bad.

I tend to be a pessimist, but I feel less optimistic than at the start. We often even lose when we have the better team (2009, 2013), and when we are better, it is still close (2014).

I do think it being this staff's first time against us goes in our favor, but we haven't played a great, complete game as a team all year long. That is what it will take to win. Hopefully we do so on Saturday.

Go Jackets!

I said more because I don't think Smart is a good coach.

I'm generally not a fan of negative thinking, but I like the way you phrased this. I'll grant you that it doesn't seem like we've really clicked in a game all season, except maybe for the Vandy game. But I would say the same about UGA.

The reason I am more optimistic is that our offense has shown a way to get the job done quite a few times this season when our go-to plays weren't working. And certainly, the guys are going to be focused on winning this one. I feel like we have more at stake here than UGA does, since the Dwag apologists have already written off this season, blaming it on Richt "leaving the cupboard bare."

About the same as the beginning of the season. I just believe that the O & D lines of ugay are bigger and Tech will have a difficult time moving them around.

I voted "same." I always assume we'll lose until the clock hits 0:00 (or the end of OT, sometimes). Nothing will ever make me believe we're likely to beat them except actually doing it.

This year, we might have been better off facing the dwags mid-season when they were really struggling. They seem to be playing better, and we still haven't gotten the consistent blocking on offense that we want. Nevertheless, this is one of the better match-ups for us: a senior QB facing a freshman QB, and a quick strike capability that overcomes our deficiencies running the ball. Richt had a system in place for preparing for us and knew what he wanted to do. Smart and his staff will be going through it for the first time. We just need a good performance in each aspect of the game and we could win big.

That doesn't look like a team that is playing well to me.

They scored on a fluke run on the first play of the game and a punt return in the first half. Otherwise they only scored on 1 of 4 meaningful drives. That drive started on their opponents end of the field due to a fumble.

In the 2nd half they scored on 2 of 4 meaningful drives.

The had a 4 to 2 turnover advantage and they received the ball on downs 3 times.

Sure, a meaningless game, but I wouldn't say that they are playing well. They beat Auburn without scoring an offensive touchdown and beat Kentucky by 3. You call that playing well?

Less.
Although UGA is as bad as I thought they were going to be
Tech isn't as good as I thought they were going to be.

I still think Tech wins though

I never said they are playing well. I said "better" than they played against Nichols State, Ole Miss, and Vandy. They've won 3 in a row, including Kentucky and Auburn, after all that earlier embarrassment.

Edit: and their "powder puff" game was against a team that beat GASO in a similar fashion to Tech.

They also needed a 2-minute drive and a 4th down prayer to beat a 3-8 Mizzou team.

That's very true. And lost of Vandy of course. I was trying to focus on his statement that they had played better "as of late" or whatever.

They're truly God awful, but they have a significant talent advantage. Still, better chance than I expected.
