Yeah, speaking of... I tried the ESPN 360 last season with a couple of games but it kept saying that my internet provider didn't support ESPN 360. I was floored - surley Comcast would support that. Was I doing something wrong?

It was an interesting corporate fight going on between ESPN and Comcast. Comcast thought ESPN's charge per customer was outrageous but most of their customers demanded it. Comcast originally put ESPN in the "normal" tier but all other ESPNs into the higher / sports tiers... This pissed off ESPN and so they basically strong armed Comcast into changing that policy. Comcast hated them for it and refused to pay-to-play with ESPN360. However, most of their customers yet again bitched incessantly until Comcast was forced to cave.

Most assuredly that has had something to do with the ever increasing rates... I hate ESPN for a lot of reasons, but they look saintly compared to Comcast.

Do you have to pay for the ESPN 360? I don't remember seeing anything about that...:ugh: I thought it was just click and stream.

No, I meant to get the channel... Basically ESPN will send their content stream to Comcast provided Comcast pays ESPN something like $3.50 per subscriber. As you can imagine, that adds up to millions, hundreds of millions of dollars a year. Comcast happily passes that cost onto us, the subscriber. Other networks charge something in the neighborhood of $1 to $1.50 per subscriber which is why Comcast is incensed with ESPN's price point. Consequently this is also why we'll probably never see a-la-carte cable pricing. If it does come about, niche channels will die off since there won't be enough people subscribing to them.

ESPN 360 is in essence "free" (eg: just click and stream) but Comcast is ultimately paying for that and is passing the cost along to you in your bill somehow - it's just not broken out piecemeal. Ever wonder why your bill keeps increasing faster than inflation? Stuff like this is partially to blame. Though, this is one time where I actually benefit from it.

Just a quick note on this, ESPN360 website stated last week that Comcast internet customers will get access on August 1, now it just says August. As long as we get it by September 5 that should be fine but I want to test it as soon as it becomes available.

Latest information this is that the target date is now August 4 for Comcast internet customers per the link below. I also received an email about this from Comcast today.

Access will also include ESPN Gameplan games via ESPN360.

I look forward to testing this with my laptop with HDMI output hooked up to my HD set. I don't know that the output will be HD but just being able to show games on the TV instead of the computer is a good thing IMO.
