I get why the pac-12 commish is going to D.C to attempt to get some clarity on N.I.L, but why is greg shanky going doesn't he realize the money UGA and TA&M bring in may be more than some conferences??

My guess it's either to be the counter to Kliavkoff or cause Saban and Smart bitched to him about TAMU.

NIL and player portal have killed CFB.

it’s like professional wrestling now. I don’t watch.

I can only hold Georgia Tech and most of the schools who are actually college football completely break away from this nonsense.

Rules are eventually going to be made by someone. You'd rather be there to steer the decisions. Hate em' but the SEC is smart.

What power does Congress have in regulating NIL?

Waste of taxpayer money IMO.

Much like several members of Congress proposing to take on Disney, until DeSantis beat them to the punch. Seems like the focus of most new members of Congress is to jump on board the high visibility/publicity “causes” that appeal to middle America voters. It’s all about lining up votes for their next election, or their move up the ladder, not necessarily doing the right thing or sticking to their campaign promises. NCAA should be the one taking the lead on the whole NIL/transfer portal mess that Emmert allowed to happen on his watch.

Cliff notes? If a player and a company sign a contract, where's the problem?
I actually don't know. I reason because you're talking about financial impacts to college football as a national "business", state universities (with federal funding), etc. that would be their IN.

This is why I think the schools that want to become nothing more than a minor league system, for pros, should be allowed to do so. Please give me a break that a 5 star player attends UGA or BAMA for the best education... They attend the "school", don't attend classes. The classes they take are crap things like basket weaving, African Studies and bowling... Let the schools that actually give an education do so. There should be a divorce from the real schools from the fake schools.

So we want to be better at school than football but complain about not winning lol

They want the Feds to come up with a uniform rule that would apply to all states and prevent the discrepancy and confusion that will arise as schools/sponsors try to move forward with conflicting state laws. For example, CA law may say that any student from CA has to abide by their version of the law which may allow all players sharing NIL proceeds equally while GA law allows the individual to take all he can negotiate for. Think of the lawsuits that will arise if this is not a universal set of rules going forward.

Absolutely. I’ve never wanted Georgia Tech to be like UGA or Bama. Most of our graduates do not.

A little like Bama and UGA would not hurt my feelings. It’s not going to destroy the engineering dept if we hire a few guys to play football. Finally I think GT is going to have to get on board or mail it in, we’ve only been dealing with this for over 50+ years when the administration of the 60’s ran Dodd off and declared war on the football program.

Or they'll just keep mailing it in while paying vague lip service to competing. We keep believing them when they say we are trying, no reason to stop now.

Exactly. Having 100 football players on the dole is not going to sully the reputation of our beloved Engineering programs. We need to get over ourselves. Most of the football players major in History, Science and Technology whatever the heck that degree program is. They’ve got no impact on any Engineer coming out of GT unless someday they become the boss.
