You guys realize that the run and shoot offense is almost the exact same formation as our current offense except the A-backs are lined out about 4 yards farther out instead of just outside the tackles.

yeah, but with PJ as coach, the way we have been running it, its more like the Run and Shout..

like shouting at the WRs and OL to do their jobs better

And do you realize that the whole point of this offense is to run the 'run and shoot' package without making any alignment adjustments at all?

That's what makes it deadly. We spread our A backs into the slot by spreading our linemen out, then run both offenses out of the same formation or sets of formations. From PJ's perspective, we're already aligned in the run and shoot.

I assume that is exactly why he likes the run and shoot, is he can run both it and the veers from the flex. Did he start with the run and shoot in Hawaii, and add the triple option plays later, or did he start with the triple options and move into the run and shoot as a counter to a defense that is covering the veers consistently?

I really love the idea of incorporating the run and shoot more. It will obviously help us when it comes to play calling, but I think it will also help with dispelling the notion that no one from this offense can move to the college retirement league. Smart wideouts, with the ability to block are something I'd imagine the NFL would desire.

All those years of watching the Falcons under Jerry Glanville and June Jones... I'm sorry, but the phrase "run and shoot" makes me cringe. I know things are different at the pro level, and this is college ball. But still.

This is about as meaningful as Miami fans claiming they will stop GT easily because they stopped Nebraska a couple times in the 90's.

Dont worry...we will not be running the run n' shoot offense. It will just be a package of plays that we run 10-15 times a game to compliment/open up our run game.
You dont have to worry about the draw play every 2nd and 10 like june jones did in atlanta.

I know, I know. It's just that the phrase conjurs up images of sucky Falcons games. I'm not saying it won't work for CPJ. I expect it will. It's just going to take quite a bit of mouthwash to get the taste out.

It's not a gimmick.. Its nothing new. Its just part of the package. Go back and watch Georgia Southern's first National Championship game against Furman. I believe Tracy Ham threw for 400+ yards in that game.

Ever notice that on some plays, Josh backs straight back and then takes off on the option? I believe this is the same drop that he will take in the R&S. He has to be able to sell the run in this package first. We are already showing a straight drop back on a number of plays at this time. I think it's more about the OL blocking assignments and the quality and timing of routes at this point.
