ESPN Classic

Yea, I was enrolled exclusively during the Gailey years. It's an odd juxtaposition. I had two years of CJ, but three of Reggie. At least I got to see the BJ Eldar/Ish Muhammed/Will Bynum/Jarret Jack basketball team. Watching this years cagers was pretty rough.

I shouldn't complain though, at least I wasn't in school during the B*** ****ing L***** years.

Hahahaha Lewis couldnt coach from the cheap seats on an airplane... what misery those years were.. wasn't he responsible for that 1-10 debacle around 93 ish?

Yup. National Champion to 1-10 in 4 years, I believe.

I'm surprised they're playing the '06 NC State game. I guess it was a good game, with a comeback and all by the good guys, but nothing too monumental at a national level, especially a few years later.

bump

GT v. NC state replay at 4pm, I can't see it as I have a housing meeting. yuck.

I remember sitting right behind the endzone when Calvin missed that catch. One of the NC State O-Linemen turned around and waved mockingly at us. I got so pissed I shoved an NCState fan standing in front of me...haha.

I was in section 120 back then. I remember we shoved the ball down NC State's throat getting it down there and then called a freakin timeout with 30 seconds left. I had just gotten through saying to one of my buddies - "give to PJ, tell him he has to score, it is his game as a senior to win, tell the OL they HAVE to clear the way". Should have never called the timeout. Could have used it if PJ didn't score. That game was absolutely OUR GAME. NC States DL was doubled over, exhausted. They took a knee right in front of us, recovering, getting some fluids, taking helmets off and getting some rest.

Everyone in the stadium knew we were throwing to Calvin. I feel sorry for Reggie Ball having to endure such poor playcalling. We would have won with PJ running or Ball keeping without calling a timeout.

I was in the Swarm. There was about a dozen of us jumping up and down yelling "DONT THROW THE BALL!"

I hate it when I am right.

Actually, I believe it was thousands of people jumping up and down saying the same thing. That game is just burned into my memory more than any other loss in the past decade. We absolutely handed the game to NC State. They were done, through, it was over, we were gonna win. I am still disgusted by that time out and that play call. It was a "Donnanesque" call by our coaches.

The play call was fine, given the situation. The problem was taking the time out put us in that situation. NC State didn't have it defended well. The interception was a freak accident.

Aw man, this game is so hard to watch. Even though I know we win in the end ... watching Reggie and Nix is just painful.

If Calvin wasn't the freakishly amazing athlete that he is, the pass never gets intercepted. It was thrown behind him, and probably would have fallen innocently to the ground when thrown to almost any other receiver.

Yup.

He should have hung on to it though, for sure. For all of Calvin's great ability, he did have a habit of dropping passes that he should have caught. It wasn't often, but it happened.

WHAT?????? Megatron had a habit of dropping passes????? Thats one of the most absurd posts ever.

I forgot how hard that it was to watch the old coaching staff!!!

What he had a habit of doing, was making it seem like someone could possibly catch the amazingly inaccuracy of Reggie Ball, and when he got a hand on the ball like nobody else on the planet could, it went as a 'drop' in the books.

Like that INT vs NC State.

I forgot how hard that it was to watch the old coaching staff!!!

No kidding.

Not sure if Gailey or Nix called the timeout. Nix ran the two minute offense then. I remember hearing the personnel on the field was wrong and Reggie was tired, or something to that effect, but they should have capable of at least calling a run up the middle.

But given the timeout, the play call was fine. The catch at the end of Clemson 2004 could have also been a freak interception and Chan would have been railed for not kicking a field goal. That fade, though, was typically money.

Ok this is driving me crazy, so I have to clarify...

We lost to NC State in a heartbreaker in 2005 at home.

This post originally stated that the 2006 game against NC State was being shown on ESPN classic. THAT year we beat NC State in Raleigh in a night game. That was the week before we clinched the Coastal division at UNC.

Granted I don't have ESPN Classic, and the original poster Crypto may have got his years confused, but we WON in 2006 and lost in 2005

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming...
