Surprised this hasn't been posted yet. ACC was the main front page story on ESPN.com(it's still there, you have to click on one of the boxes beneath the main story now though) for a while.

Tagline: "When the crowd tells the ACC to sit down, it stands up. Don't buy it? Stats indicate the conference has risen above the rest."

How long do You think it will be when the ACC is on equal footing with the SEC? I think the ACC is making great strides.

Never, if you're talking about reputation. We don't have the right types of programs to be on equal footing with the SEC. The only conferences that do are the Big XII and probably the Big X(I).

If you're just talking in terms of talent, we are definitely making great strides.

I agree the ACC talentwise is getting better Year after Year.
 
The Big 12 is doing something very smart: They don't play any meaningful games until very late in the season. This way, they have 5 or 6 undefeated or close teams and that sells for the first 8 weeks.

Meanwhile, the stupid ACC, schedules it's big games early. The odds of Tech and VPI going 5-0 are slim. FSU or Miami can't. Clemson or Tech can't. UNC or Tech can't.... We have way too many big games scheduled early and as always we'll beat each other up, end the year with 9-3 teams but will be ranked behind the Big 12 9-3 teams in the end.
 
There are 2 camps. Lose early or lose late. If you lose early and reel off a long string of wins, you have a chance to jump as other teams lose. If you are with the lose late camp, your late losses should come against highly ranked teams not pushing you too far down in the rankings.

I think both conferences have it right for their mix of teams. The Big 12 knows their good teams (Texas, OU, and 1 of MU, KU, Nebraska, and OK St). The ACC has no clue with so many teams with a "shot" (GT, VT, UNC, FSU, Clemson, UM, etc). It is best for the ACC to use early tests to find their best team early and then have them skate to big seasons without late tests.

The unknown secret. The best conferences have 2-3 great teams, 6 bad-terrible teams, and a few in the middle. The ACC has 8-9 in the middle with a few bad teams.
