During grad orientation they'd always speak it as "Gaaaah Tech dot e-d-u" - I cringed every time...

hahaha, that's just understood as the way to pronounce it. Just be glad that no one outside of Tech seems to understand it (the ones I've told my email/Georgia Tech websites to), otherwise it would probably catch on...

I thought it sounded stupid when I first heard it too, but now I am used to it. GEE A Tech sounds better.

that is what i was referring to, the gah-tek pronunciation. it comes up often
