ESPN Power Rankings

Has anyone else looked at tOSU's schedule? My God. We'd be heading to the playoffs without a doubt with that sorry lineup. One ranked team all year? Their next three games - Hawaii - Northern Illinois - Western Michigan. Michigan State is their only challenge.

Yep. Smooth sailing from here out. OSU will be #1 until the playoffs unless they just totally screw up - and I don't see that happening. I don't even know who is on the other side of the B10 for them to play in the B10 championship, but Michigan State is second best in the conference anyway.

Which if he still doesnt know is an FBS conference. ULM has been fbs for a long time

They sure as heck didn't play like an FBS conference this weekend. 2-9 in the opening weekend.

Thanks alot Georgia Southern.

Nebraska, Penn State, and Wisco were the other three "respectable" Big 10 teams - all lost. Northwestern will get a little love after beating an overrated Stanford team, but will quickly fall back to earth. Michigan and Purdue looked bad in losses.

I guess Maryland - perennial ACC dreg turned decent Big 10 opponent - will again be viewed as respectable. That one still kills me. They go 4-4 in year 1 after going 6-18 the previous 3 years in the ACC and nobody thinks that's strange.

If Maryland was in the B10 West, they'd have a shot to win it.

I've thought about this some more and I'm not that upset with it yet. We've beaten up on two bad teams and could theoretically lay en egg on Saturday to prove mediocrity (won't happen). He's pretty clearly ranking based on current resumes rather than past seasons or team brand. Which is kind of refreshing really. He's got ND at 7. So if we beat them on the road and he doesn't put us in his Top 7 I'll start calling BS. But otherwise, every team above us has played tougher opponents and could theoretically be better than us despite losses.

Win Saturday and everything will change. We'll have all the hype we can handle. Probably more than I care to have.

Is he now?

That must be why USC with victories against Arkansas St and Idaho is #8. That also explains Baylor with victories against something called Lamar and SMU at #10.

Impressive resumes.

But I thought our fanbase wanted to be ranked low because we don't deserve to be ranked high yet, or something like that.

Good points. I'm still not that upset with it though. If we're outside anybody's Top 10s after a win in South Bend then I'd feel like I was justified to bitch about it. If we were to win by a few scores I could see people giving a us a big bump in the polls with last season's results looking somewhat reinforced.

I think he just made the mistake of assuming Tulane is not an FBS team. He doesn't rank teams that play FCS teams for some reason which allows him to rank SEC teams all year and call out non-SEC teams who schedule their FCS games early in the season.

Whereas SEC teams play a bunch of FCS'ers during the second to last week.

Higher rankings make it easier to be in top 4 in last poll. Higher rankings also get more coverage of games for recruits.
