FSU Redshirt linebacker Maurice Harris was arrested just before 10 P.M. Monday night by FSU police and is currently in jail.
According to the Leon County Sheriff's Office, he is being charged with felony counts of grand theft less than $5,000, property crimes possessing a vehicle with altered numbers, and a non moving traffic misdemeanor violation.

Shouldn't the news be when an FSU player is not arrested?

Talk about an oops moment.

This summer has been lackluster in the arrests. Even in Athens there have been far fewer incidences. The coaching staff up there must have cracked the whip on the players.

No, they just don't have many returning players.

An FSU player arrested? I find that hard to believe. Bowden runs a tight ship down there in Tallahassee. This has got to be a mistake.

At this rate, the practice squad will be taking the field for the first two games.

keeps getting better and better...

this guy drove the stolen motorcycle to the stadium and even loaned it to one of the coaches....

On Monday, parking services noticed the motorcycle parked near Gate A the stadium and notified the police at 4:34 p.m.

An officer contacted strength and conditioning coach Todd Stroud, who had borrowed the motorcycle from Harris earlier in the day. Stroud brought Harris in to talk to the officer, but Harris refused to talk to him and denied knowing anything about the boot, according to police.

The vehicle identification number had also been scratched off, so Harris was charged with possession of a vehicle with altered numbers. The paper tag on the bike was also not assigned to it, so that was a misdemeanor charge. The theft of the boot and the other charge were both felonies.

The motorcycle has been impounded, but police still aren't sure to whom it belongs.

how does that dialogue go?

Coach: can I borrow your shiny motorcycle?

Player: yea, whatever knock yourself out....

the ONLY thing that could make this story better is IF THE COACH would have been arrested while driving the stolen motorcycle

:laugher:

.....

How the dialogue should have went if Harris had any sense.

Officer: Son, is this your motorcycle?
Harris: I think it's coach Stroud's. I saw him riding it just this afternoon.
Stroud: BUt...but..but...
Officer: Put you hands behind your back Stroud. You have the right to remain silent...

I mean really, if the kid had just acted like he had never seen the bike before what would they have on him?

Alright LawBee, how does the coach NOT get charged with possession himself? I thought ignorance was no excuse in a court of law? I'm just curious now.

the issue would be knew OR SHOULD HAVE KNOWN the thing was stolen

I have actually gone to trial on this issue. If the ignition was punched out then the coach would be looking at charges.

If the player hands the coach keys then the coach is probably ok.

I have had numerous cases where there are no signs of forced entry on vehicle however D got it for $15/ or = amount of crack

Gotcha - so in this case, ignorance is an acceptable defence.

I doubt any F$U coach ever borrows a vehicle from a player in the future though.
