Face of The Program

Yes, but those are visible. The point of a face is that you can see it.

dude, this might take the cake of your dumbest opinion on the board

if you think that Paul Johnson is what Georgia Tech stands for, then you dont know anything about GT. How can you even say that give PJ has yet to coach even one game for us?

Clearly, number one is Bobby Dodd
then, i would argue it could be debatable, with Heisman or Alexander the likeliest, although i can see why some would pick Ross.
Castleberry above PJ, or CJ, or any J there is
Joe Ham would have been up there, but maybe not now...

As far as being most representative of what GT is about Homer Rice would be a darn good candidate for that as well, though not specific to football.

No the point of the face is that it's symbolic of the program. You know, Bobby Dodd Stadium @ Hisoric Grant Field, on Bobby Dodd Way? Get it?

I am going with Bobby Dodd as the face and B*** L**** as the anus.

Paul Johnson now. 2nd is CJ, IMO.
Paul Johnson hasn't been here long enough to accomplish anything yet. IMO i say BUZZ should be the face of the program, I think they allow mascots.

how about good ole' George as the phallus? he's one that you like to hear stories about, but not get too close yourself

i also nominate Bill Curry as the premature ejaculate and then Coach Marrone as the thing that falls out of B*** L****.

As much as I'd like it to be Buzz personally, I think the Wreck has higher dibs than Buzz if we were to choose a mascot as the face of the program.

It's the face of the program not what best represents it...

They may sound similar, but they're different.

Kyle, really, you need to accept on this one that you are WAY WRONG. what people mean by "face of the program" or "face of the nation" is not a face that is the current leader, not maybe even an actual face at all.

it is instead exactly what you say it isnt, something that is REPRESENTATIVE of the school program. so that with one "picture" or word or phrase, all the essence of a program is called upon.

some examples: The Four Horsemen, Bear Bryant, Bo Jackson, Bo Shembechler, The Horseshoe,...etc

these all conjure up more than an individual, they bring up the essence of a programs history and future, with an emotional tie...

that is what is meant when they refer to the 'face' of a program, not a face but a paradigm

I disagree. It's the most frequently seen image (face) when your program is mentioned. Right now, it's Paul Johnson.

Buzzczar and GTKyle,

You are both right. It is an opinion, not a right or wrong answer.

IMO I would say CPJ today. 2 years ago it was Calvin. Before Calvin it was Lil Joe.
I can understand how the older crowd would say Dodd, but I wasnt born yet so its hard to relate.

No it's not, and you know it, but you're purposely being obtuse about the whole thing.

No it's what people think of, not a person or current image. Bobby Dodd is clearly the right choice.

Let's construct a logical argument for Kylie..

  1. a persons face, or visage is something that can be looked upon and the person can be recognized for who he/she is
  2. even though you might not see the person for years and years, when you see them, you will likely recognize them through facial characteristics even though their appearance has changed somewhat over time
  3. this implies that we can recognize in facial structures features which are somewhat constant, and somehow representative of the person
  4. this would imply that the "face" of something is something that can be recognized over the years by those who know the person, and also by many that only know the person superficially but know what he/she "looks like"
  5. Thusly, we can conclude that the "face of a program" must be something that is lasting and reflective of a permanent order of things
  6. hence, something that GT stands for such as Heisman, Dodd, Alexander, or Rice could be the face, as could the oldest on-campus D1 stadium *which happens to have Dodds name attached*; however, it is clear that Paul Johnson at this point cannot be considered
  7. PJ could perhaps be considered if he has a long tenure at GT, wins many games, continues to run the PJ "GT30" offense and wins as a matter of course, then PJ and Paul Ball may end up being the face of the GT program. he is about 2 Natl Titles and 20 years away...

If you are talking about hard core GT fans, then Bobby Dodd is probably the face of the program. If you're talking about the national perception of the program then it would probably be the ramblin wreck, or Buzz. I doubt there are many people under 50 who aren't GT fans who've heard of Bobby Dodd.

If you're going with a person then Bobby Cremins.

Most people have heard of Bobby Dodd, if only through the award that's given every year. They may not know who he is or what he stands for, but they've heard of him if they're college football fans.

By that logic, I'd imagine that Heisman would fit the bhill better.

I'm going to say that currently CJ is the face of the program. If Coach Johnson wins some games then he'd be the next logical choice. Oops, I mean WHEN Coach Johnson wins...
