Fact: ACC > SEC

Going off of conference records with logical tiebreaks (HtH)...

#1 ACC (FSU, 8-0) beat #T6 SEC (UF, 4-4) barely at home
#2 ACC (Tech, 6-2) beat #4 SEC (UGA, 6-2) on the road
#3 ACC (CU, 6-2) beat #T9 SEC (USCe, 3-5) badly at home
#T4 ACC (UL, 5-3) beat #T12 SEC (UK, 2-6) barely at home

So what happened was exactly what should have happened if what the country is preaching is true - the SEC isn't that far ahead. The Clemson/GT games look very good for the conference. FSU doesn't look great. Louisville looks good considering they were down to their 3rd string QB in the game. Hard to look at those results and see anything other than the Top of the ACC being better than the middle of the SEC. Which is all we're trying to say.

It takes multiple seasons, and it's starting to happen. Right now the SEC is still enjoying the hype spin of several years as the undisputed best conference, and we see that reflect in the preseason rankings, which in turn affect the perception of the season.

But people are starting to notice. If we win out and the rest of the ACC gets a strong showing during bowl season, we'll have several very highly ranked teams going into next season and we will be a major storyline. Especially if the SEC doesn't win in the playoff.

As usual, winning cures all. Unless you're David Pollack, in which case the results on the field don't really matter.

Updated ESPN Football Power Index still has 5 SEC teams in the top 10 (including UGA at #4)

As mentioned in the other thread, that's a computerized index that's meant to rank the "best" teams, not the most deserving teams. If that's what you're trying to do, then Saturday doesn't exactly say anything negative about U[sic]GA...an overtime loss is pretty much as good as an overtime win for those purposes.

That explains why they didn't drop much...nothing really fishy there to me. As to why they and the other SEC teams are so high in general, I wouldn't be surprised if they somehow took preseason rankings into account at the beginning and the SEC teams are still living off of that.
