Favorite COFH game

85 at home was good.
90 in athens was better.
the silence of the dawgs in 16 was just fine.

2000 when the Goose got loose. It was my freshman year and the only win I’ve seen in person.
Dude they are the best. You need to give yourself more chances to witness it.
There’s nothing like yelling to hell with Georgia and piss on em when you are winning.

2008 was special just because it had been so long. Was in a blissful euphoria. Was in Med school at the time and probably 170 of the 200 people in my class went to uga. That Monday morning was incredible.
2014 was probably the most enjoyable.
2016 was fun. Went with my wife (went to uga). We had a good time, me more than her.
2013 still pisses me off. We had them lined up for a game that could have been known as the Beat Down at Bobby Dodd and we got too comfortable with a 20-0 lead.
I think 2018 will top the list tho since we’re going to knock them out of playoff contention.

2008.

Chan Gailey and I shared tenure at Tech, so I had a rough time of it. 2008 was my first year up here. Started watching the game, got pissed off and left. Finally came home around the third quarter and got confused when I saw the score. Thought to myself “That’s an odd stat, wonder what that means”. Im man enough to admit that I got a little misty after Roddy’s run.

“Where’s the sting of these yellow jackets, Trev Alberts?”

"Ball's out! The ball is out."

1. 1984- sitting in club level in Athens and watching Tech build a 35-6 lead in the 3rd quarter -it doesn’t get much better than that- leading to a 35-18 victory, where Dawg Nation filed out in droves midway through the 3rd quarter.

2. 2008- “Where’s the Sting?” -in the 3rd quarter, that’s where. Literally turning a 28-12 halftime deficit into a 35-28 lead in a blink of an eye. Roddy’s tightrope down the UGA sideline to seal the deal in CPJ’s COFH debut.

3. 2014- “The kick and the pick” -after JT5’s fumble I was just deflated, not angry, just drained of emotion. The Richt pooch kick, JT5’s scramble to set up Butler to “he made it by a half-yard” and DJ’s interception to seal the deal.

4. 2000- “The Goose is Loose!” -anytime you win a third-in-a-row against UGA is a cause for emmense celebration, and a top 5 ranking of favorite COFH.

5. 1985- Gary Lee’s “Gallop in the Fog” / Ted Roof’s will to win. While Lee’s KO return is rightly a piece of GT lore in COFH, Roof’s heroics should not be overlooked. He got injured during the game (ankle IIRC), when he went out UGA began to dominate on the ground. Roof renters the game, and wills the Black Watch defense to victory. Remember the bakers dozen goal line stand at the half -Tech’s D had 13 players on the field.

Honorable mention- 1977, 1989, 1990, 1998, 1999, 2016

Homage- 1984-1990 -Tech led the series 4-3 during that stretch.

1985 - Gary Lee fog game
2008 - telling a room full of Dwag fan relatives at halftime that I wasn’t worried. Muwahahahahahah

I’ve been to many more and got a poor result. It’s not that I haven’t been. It’s that the ones I’ve been to have sucked. 51-7 being the worst. Plus my wife who went to uga (no pics) hates going to this game because she is worried about fights - so I don’t generally make the games in Athens.

Been a Tech fan since I can remember (almost 42), 2014 is hard to beat. I was at the '90 game and that was awesome too.

3. 2014- “The kick and the pick” -after the refs ööööed us on JT5’s touchdown I was just deflated, not angry, just drained of emotion. The Richt pooch kick, JT5’s scramble to set up Butler to “he made it by a half-yard” and DJ’s interception to seal the deal.

1974 in Athens. My first win over the Dawgs as a Tech student. Freezing rain and the wishbone offense rollled. A beautiful day.

Some friends and I were watching an illegal stream at a buddies apartment. We were all pissed about the blown call on the "fumble" return for 99 yards by U[sic]GA.
Before Butker's kick I turned to my buddy's girlfriend and said: "Hit or miss all of us are going to have a heart attack."

Sure enough Butker came through and we all went ballistic.

I didn't mention this in my original post, but I will now.

When that happened I was definitely angry -so angry that I walked upstairs from my basement den to my kitchen and put a hole in the wall at the top of the stairs with my elbow.

34-14, in Athens, in the rain. They were favored by (as I remember it) 3 touchdowns.

I've only paid attention to Tech football since COFH in 2008 after getting accepted to the institute.
We didn't win while I was a student, but if I had to rank them it would be as follows.

1. 2016- First win over the mutts that I saw in person. My wofe got the scoreboard pic that made it into the AJC.

2. 2014 - The only COFH that I've missed since I became a student in 2009. We watched in with my MIL (a dawg grad) and it was beautiful.

3. 2nd half 2008, I turned this game on as "Where's the sting?" Was said. Awesome intro to the series.

4. 2010. While we lost, the dead silence after their final score, when they realized that there was 2 minutes on the clock was golden. Unfortunately we couldn't complete the payoff.

5. 2015
6. 2017
7. 2011
8. 2012
9. 2009: BeBe's drop, and the blown PI on the 1st down that drive, I still get pissed about this one.
10. 2013: this one hurt. It was my last chance for a win as a student. We were up 20-0, Vad seemed to finally have his head back in the game, and then we collapsed. This is still the most painful loss that we've had to them since I became a Tech fan.

I'm gonna go have a beer and watch 2014 reruns now.

2014 - I was there. That whole trip is one CSB.
1999 - Luke Manget game winner got me kicked out of my best friend's house. His whole family are UGA grads/fans. Good times.
2008 - Watched that comeback standing in ankle deep water outside Doak tailgating for FSU v. UF game. It flooded all day that day. I rewatch that second half every year to get me ready for a new season.
2016 - First time watching COFH at in-laws house (all Noles). Sequestered in sun room watching alone. Emerged hammered, to nobody's surprise, when Qua scored!
