Favorite memory from Athens?

When he was inducted into his hometown's athletic hall of fame last year, Raymond Blake talked about that Godsey run and how great it was to hear all those people go very quiet.

I can't remember the exact number, but there were 7-8 future NFL starters on that defense. Not 7-8 NFL players, but 7-8 NFL starters and Goose was untouched.

Wy passed away back in the mid to late 70's of stomach or colon cancer.

That was the day in Athens we lined Mike up as a TE and ran inside traps with Jack Williams handing him the ball. Smylie Gebhart, also now dead (2001), had a helluva game along with Perdoni. Chip Pallman, just as Tommy Chapman had done a year prior in Dooley's first shutout, had a great day punting the football.

Similarly, though I don't know the cause, Larry Elliott, 2B for the Beesball team from our era, also died about the same period as Mike.
Somewhat belatedly, thanks Deep Snap. It brought tears to my eyes to read about Mike. He was an all state player at North Fulton and his father was a professor at Tech. Sad to hear.

The girl I used to date from there, and the reality that I didn't marry her.

1970 & 17-7..... The late Mike Wysong's TD catch

1974 & 34-14.... Wishbone hell for the puppies.....

The 1974 game was the most fun that I have attended. Cold, driving rain and Tech beat the hell out of them from beginning to end. The Georgia band and cheerleaders never came back on the field after half time. Tech fans flooded the field at the end and blocked the Georgia team from their dressing room for several minutes while pelting them with tangerines. Georgia was headed to the Tangerine bowl.

To make the year even a little more special, they lost to Miami of Ohio in the bowl!

1974 Mud Bowl, did not need ice for the drinks. Nad Lickers left at half time. Good Guys win.
Best of all I had dry clothes in the car. Fraternity chapter in Athens had plenty of babes.

Damn I hope it rains this Sat.

Only been once - 2004 - and we lost, but before the disaster that ended the game, it really felt like we were about to come back and win. I could already seen Reggie connecting to Calvin like he did against Clemson.

1990 - plane circling the stadium w/ banner reading "Fire Ray Goof" in the 3rd & 4th qtrs.
