I remember as a kid they had a cheer that was carried on the portable PA system of the lower east student section. They worked "bust their ass" into the cheer but I can not remember the details. It may have been..."Here we go defense here we go, BUST THEIR ASS!" Does this sound familar
<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">During this time (late 60's/early 70's, we would also count off the yardage as the ump stepped off a penalty against us. When he reached the last yard, the east stands would shout "you basta**"

Another at this time involved E.O. Wheeler. When E.O. would kick off, the east stands would roar "E.O. W h e e l e r" similar to "Go Jackets" we do now.

Does anyone remember these?

Speaking of nostalgia, how about these:

Rats on the field, Rats on the field!

Damn poor/good Rat!

By the way, how many here purchased a Rat Cap?
For those that did purchase one, who wore one?

I started Ma Tech in the fall of '78. Purchased a cap, but didn't wear it. I was a an ATO pledge, and if I remember correctly, that was reason for not wearing the Cap.

I wish I had it now, though.

LLCoolJacket,

I was in the band, so I was made to wear my RAT Cap.

My freshman year started in the fall of 1998, and that happened to be the year when we played FSU at BDS@HGF. If you remember, ESPN Gameday broadcast from BDS@HGF that day. They had a pep rally at the stadium during the show, and I was on the front row of the stands right behind the stage.

During a commercial for the show, they held a "Best RAT Cap" Competition. The RAT Caps were held up in front of the crowd, and the one that got the most cheers won the competition. Needless to say, my RAT Cap won! It was great because the winner received 2 tickets to the game that night.

To this day, my RAT Cap is one of my most prized possesions. It has all the scores from the 10-2 season, including a win over UGA (to break the streak) and a win over Notre Dame in the Gator Bowl.

Those cheers are all well remembered. But with the Politically Correct world and the Professors in College World living that idea, I doubt we will ever hear those cheers from the sidelines. UNLESS the crowds get them back into the games.
How about it West Stands and Student Section?

One of my favorites from years ago when we had some pretty strong defenses was:

Get the ball
Get the ball
Get the damn ball!

also

Defense, bust their ass
Defense, bust their ass
Defense, Bust their ass
Defense, sting em!

another was used whenever praise was deemed appropriate:

Damn good team (ref, band, coach, etc.)
Damn good team
Damn good team

All of these have cascaded throughout Grant Field over the past many years.

Go Jackets!

Now, I'm a true blue GT fan, but I went to school in Berkley. so mine is a little different. Against UCLA our cheer was F U C LA. I still have a T-shirt sky blue with the yellow colors of UCLA with the F U C LA on it. I can't tell you how many times, UCLA types have come up to me and said "hey, I went to UCLA too" before they read the whole thing.

I remembered something else that was not a cheer but was some graffiti written on the walls of the tunnel back when it wasn't near as long as it is now (early to mid70's).

What purpose hath a naked wall
Tis but a place on which to scrawl
Such random thoughts that come to mind
or maybe some poetic line.

To clothe this wall I give my aid.
A moment here I briefly stayed
My rhyme to share, my thought to tell
To say may georgia go to hell.

Damn good team (ref, band, coach, etc.)
Damn good team
Damn good team

All of these have cascaded throughout Grant Field over the past many years.

Go Jackets
