Caught a piece of Jim Rome's show while out at lunch. He absolutely roasted Georgia's whole program from the fans to the blackout to the team to the coach to their character.

"The whole team was in black. The whole stadium was in black. The whole State of Georgia could have been in black for that matter. 'Ohhh. We're so scared of the black we can't even get a play off.' Clones, uniform color has absolutely no effect on the game. You know what does? Having better players. Having better coaches. Having a better game plan."

"I've never seen a team more apt to unload the clip on their own foot."

"This team is well known for its character issues off the the field. So why is there surprise when it shows up on the field."

"The worse part for Georgia is the way it happened. Its not like they could say it was a bad bounce, or questionable call, or we just had a bad game. Bama straight up whipped them on the line of scrimmage all game. The offensive and defensive lines just took turns pounding on Georgia."

That's just a little bit of what I can remember. It was brutal.

I get the sense that the evil empire might be in the beginning stages of crumbling.

You know what I thought about while watching the first half? I thought - let's say we get out to a decent early lead and UGa has to play catchup. Not out of the question by any means.

When Stafford starts launching missles downfield to catch up, we'll have a couple guys just sitting back there waiting for them.

I changed channels as soon as the first half was over. I figured that nothing in the 2nd half - even a replay of the first half - could match the first half so decided there was nothing left to see.

Well, that makes it official: I love Jim Rome. That felt really weird to say.

I'm really starting to warm up to Rome. He bashed Richt when he was crying to ESPN about Knowshow, and now pwnd them after they were humiliated. I can't wait to see what he has to say after they've lost 2 or 3 more.

Let's not forget the praise he gave Paul Johnson.

UGA fans are saying the players were tired from traveling to ASU the week before. :laugher:

They started saying that on their radio broadcast half way through the 2nd quarter. Lol.

I still think Jim Rome is an asshole. He's just stating the obvious - UGA overhyped this game after whining by Richt, then laid a big, stinky turd in the middle of the field. The only way Rome would score points with me is if he pointed out the magical, fairyland, redneck reality that the UGA fan base has parked their trailer in. Even then, I'd still think the guy was an asshole.

Coming from a GT fan - that was a cheap shot. Sure, they have character issues from time to time. But how did it show up on the field Saturday night? There were some aggression penalties (playing after the whistle, etc) but that doesn't always stem from character issues (and I don't think it was the case for UGA). Did they give up when nothing was going their way? Not at all.

The comments about UGA being unprepared and whipped physically are absolutely fair - but relating the offseason character problems to Saturday night's results are wrong.

Did USC lose to Oregon State because they have character issues (and they're all paid handsomely) or because Oregon State's Oline whipped USCs defensive front?

Check the differential in penalty yards.

Did anyone else catch what one of the ESPN Gameday announcers said, " Black out. HA, more like a straight out mugging!" I think Desmond said it but I am not sure.

Poor character is what prevents consistency. When you have poor character, you lack focus and discipline. UGA players are more concerned with hurdling defenders and dancing on the sideline and looking good and telling their coach what to do and what to wear than focusing on the job and taking care of business. It was absolutely why USC lost to Oregon St also. USC could have taken that game over early had they cared to do it. Pete Carroll thinks that he's loaded the guns and all he has to do now is fire them. Wrong. You have to get these young athletes to have the proper attitude and proper respect for the opponent and the game. This has also been the downfall of FSU, Tennessee, Clemson. I for one am glad to have a coach that hands out non-efforts and rides anyone who doesn't stay focused at all times between whistles. Alabama's coach is that way too.

BTW, in FSU's heyday, they had a bunch of head-hunting thugs and their character issues were in full display on the playing field (almost to the point of embraced). And it resulted in wins...

The Dawgs didn't lose because of their character, they lost because St. Richt was outcoached by Satan. Bama went in there and punched UGA in the mouth from the word go. They were not ready to play this game. That's a coaching problem, not a character problem.

Exactly - there's enough material to kill UGA on that is based in reality. No need to make anything up...

We lead the ACC in penalty yards. Do we have character issues?

Playing tough and aggessive <> playing with lack of character.

Us leading the ACC in penalties is partly due to a new system. I think we have had probably 6 or more chop blocks that we wouldn't have if we weren't trying to do cut blocks. Some of them have been questionable, but some have just been the guys getting used to the technique. However, thats an additional 15 or more yards a game on penalties just due to learning how to block correctly. Its not like we're Auburn with the chop blocks.

I don't know what the stats are, but I would bet that taking 15 ypg off our stat, we wouldn't be first anymore. We are average when it comes to penalties. uga had a lot of cheap shots and very obvious calls that were just plain frustration personal fouls that could have easily been avoided with discipline.
