Field Goals are gonna kill us? and other thoughts

How many of you wanted to go for it last night on both of the last field goals? I couldn't watch either one of them. Congrats to Blair!!!

I could feel our intensity level drop off after we were up 24-0. As bad as we played after that, it shows some mental toughness to get back in the game and win. JN and JD were the leaders in that.

I did not think Clemson held, but the refs missed plenty of holds on plays where Clemson had big yardage so it all came out in the wash.

I don't think we'll face a better defense this year. Glad to have the win. Now even more worried about Miami and trying to get my voice back.
 
I think VT has a better overall defense, and people keep saying UNC's D-line is just as good as Clemson's...I guess we'll find out as the season goes on. Hopefully we can take care of Miami like we did last year.
 
Whenever I feel lackadaisacal (damn I can't spell) during a damn TECH game, I KNOW the players have to be feeling somewhat the same feelings as well.

You could feel the lack of energy (hell, I wasn't even that interested anymore when we went up 24-0). Then....WHAMMY!!! Ol' MO-MO went Clemson's way and we started with the Cha-Cha-Cha's.

If anyone can understand wtf I just said, I'll buy you a beer.
 
I felt the turning point in the game is them holding us to a FG to go up 24-0. I really wanted to see PJ go for it on 4th and short and completely demoralize Clemson. On the other hand, we did win by a field goal....
 
I was not worried at all...as I have said many times over the past week...Blair has only missed one ever inside the 40. He is money within that range.

It is outside the 40 where he has never made one in a game despite consistently hitting them in practice.

Career is is 10-10 inside the 30 and 16-17 inside the 40. He is 0-7 outside the 40.

I knew he had last nights attempts.

You must have balls of steel then. I was seriously almost sick to my stomach the last half of the fourth quarter.

i was still nervous...but the entire FG process drives me nuts because the deep snap scares the crap out of me...same with punts. Then there is the hold...then the kick...arrgh. The precision of the entire thing scares me!

I too had the thoughts that down the stretch it'll be hard for me to be comfortable putting games into Blair's leg. My friend was talking about how if we stopped them after our field goal then we'd win the game, and that we needed a fumble or an interception...he was saying this BEFORE we kicked the FG.

I told him, I just hope we make the field goal first! Thank you Scott Blair!

yeah, i was thinking back to when we went for the FG on 3rd down against UGA one year, and lucky we did b/c we fumbled the snap but fell on it

then on 4th, we made the FG and won the game.. was that 90?

In 1999 we had one blocked on 3rd down; kicked it again on 4th and won. Not sure if that's what you were referring to.

Are you thinking of 1999? Goose fell on the blocked 3rd down FG in OT before it crossed the LOS. One hell of a way to learn about that rule for the first time.

1990 was the year that Bobby Ross decided to go for two, at least twice I think, just for the hell of it. To this day I don't know why he kept going for 2 in that game.

I was shocked when I heard those stats last night. Why is he so piss-poor at PATs?
 
Last night + uga game last year elevated Blair considerably. Now let's sign a kicker who can kick it in the end zone. Seems like everybody else does.
 
I thought we had a couple of freshman walk-on kickers/punters intending to try out, but I haven't seen any press on it since January. Anyone know more?

I agree that Blair is good within his range. Obviously greater range would help us.
