Field looks horrible

What made ours even worse was the coconut husks they originally went with that made the field look like mud when we played in the slightest of rain.

I guess we replaced them with the pellets. It is funny how I can't have a damn loose pellet on my railspur where we unload resin, but we are fine to broadcast tiny rubber pellets across the field.

Our astroturf always tends to look dead
Is this 1985 again?

Back when they did t care if you walked across the field, I remember as a young teen walking across our field after an early season game and being amazed that we'd play on something that essentially felt like a parking lot. It was horrible.

It may have been a Water Reuse program that the Facilities organization maintains
All it took was a couple of Shaw alums to take Stansbury to Chili's and next thing you know we have what looks to be Shaw 2nd quality turf installed. The chips and queso are pretty good at Chili's, so the knew what they were doing

Install turf on the railspur.

Duh.

As I recall, there was a creek under the stadium getting redirected into a sewer line, and the last time we redid the field, we started capturing that water in a cistern for use for the field. It’s been a while, so I could be misremembering.

From the topography of the area of the stadium, Peters park, etc one could imagine that before the campus was built there had to be, at least, a storm water drainage ditch and perhaps, as you said, an active stream being fed from the water table.

There was definitely a creek (Tanyard Creek, IIRC). The thing I’m a little fuzzy on was how they were reclaiming the creek water for irrigation.

Tanyard Creek is north of the campus and considering all of the underground storm sewer piping installed between campus and the direction of the piping on campus I could see that Tanyard Creek was running through the property that is now Peters Park, etc.

I don’t think this was the case. When the transition was made I knew the lead guy for Shaw on the project. He said GT thought they’d be able to host more concerts like The Rolling Stones and soccer matches and it would be cheaper long term.
How’s that working out.
Then why are we having the pre-game concerts on a small strip of sidewalk instead of inside the stadium? You can break down a small stage in 5-10 mins if you're organized.

Being there is a practically new, more modern, venue to host concerts like the stones, it is a pretty crappy reason to install artificial.

Even GAST got the Foo Fighters over BDS.
And a few weeks ago Truist Park got Green Day.
Yeah, but did those fields get to host a WWE announcement for free, hmm???

I would love to continued beating our ööööty field to death . . . but it already looks dead.

When has our Athletic Department ever been organized?

What bothers me is that it was a decision to make a major change to our historic football venue without stakeholders like alumni and fans having even an opportunity to provide input.

Doubt we'll get grass back in our lifetimes at this point...

Still had the 2 for $25 then, so it was an easy hook. It was a different time.

Instead, we signed a deal to give away one big HOME game every year to the stadium (Benz) which also stole our potential concerts/events. Damn smart.
