Summary of results from the SGA fight song poll.

http://imgur.com/gallery/nxcji1I

3/4 majority of ~12K voters oppose the change. Only groups that were majority in favor were faculty and grad students.

Females were about 65/35 opposed, males about 70/30 opposed.

Of course, anyone could say they were whatever they wanted. I'm sure a lot of guys voted as girls.

We need to increase the fees on both. Why are faculty even allowed to vote? Most of them are not alumni.

If they identify as girls then it's okay

While acknowledging the polling method was stupid and assuming it's close to reflective to the actual results, I'm really struggling understanding why either of these two groups would give a öööö about a school fight song? I figured both would be so indifferent.

Idiocy. Let's have sexy photo shoots of TECH students on the jumbotron. Appropriate music?

Just knee-jerk progressive thinking/PC, if I had to guess. Those groups more than most are unlikely to have any idea of the history and context of the song, so there's probably a lot of "oh, somebody says this is sexist - I don't like sexism, so I'll vote."

For faculty, I assume there's also some pressure to support the change given that the chairs of all the schools were among the first to support the proposed change.

Annie Anton, chair of the school of interactive computing, wrote a Technique editorial and said "As one of only two women school chairs, I felt the need to set a good example and 'join' the petition. As a three-time alum, I regret my decision to sign; allow me to explain."

This reminds me of the push to rename Tillman Hall, the most famous building at Clemson. If you believed the internet, the whole school was up in arms because Tillman was a racist and it HAD to be changed. Once polling started, it turned out that a vast majority do not support a name change, with faculty being the only major exception.

I look at this situation the same way. You pretty much have to be looking for something to get offended by, if this bothers you.

Isn't there an official release?

All I see in a quick search is a couple of images (including the one I linked, and another about the "gender equality on campus" question) on the SGA Facebook page. The whole think is pretty half-assed.

I do like the dude arguing (with a woman) in the Facebook comments about why he's going to sing it as "join" from now on anyway.

Who actually sings this part anyway? Let's just make it official and change it to "raise the ratio".

Faculty and graduate students should not be allowed to vote. Only undergraduate alumni should be allowed to vote. Friends (aka sidewalk fans) should be allowed to vote.

Or just poll people at the FSU game wearing white.

That is because Clemson is full of hate-filled, racist rednecks.

That last bit is crucial. Tony Yetman likely has plenty of pals in the west stands who are embarrassed by the fact that we feel compelled to resort to something as silly as celebrating a score or a victory, and with some tacky song, no less.

There are 130 people who voted "other" for gender question. Wtf is other?
