Defense looks like their conditioning was done by:

and whoever had the ball had an OH **** moment from the ensuing tackler almost as bad as this OH **** moment:

Next game....

I'm sure the players would have been far more conditioned if it was done by Richard Simmons.

1. Conditioning is a concern.
2. Blocking is a concern.
3. The Jackets ran up against a buzz saw with an ax to grind and we were not prepared.
4. Miami is a good football team. Randy Shannon has and will continue to do a good job with that program.
5. We are a good football team but we needed a punch in the face to get us started. Well, we got it. Now I feel that we will start playing football.

I wish I could explain the conditioning issue because that was the ONE thing I was really not worried about

My 3 Takes:

1. I knew Miami would be good if they ever got some good coaching. They always had talent, just bad coaching. How much did they pay the OC to get him away from the Philadelphia Eagles?

2. No more 3 games in 12 days or whatever it was. We looked tired in the first Quarter.

3. You just can't replace 3 D-Linemen who are now in the NFL.

Now if I can just be patient enough to let our Freshmen & Red Shirt Freshmen O-Line grow up.

2. No more 3 games in 12 days or whatever it was. We looked tired in the first Quarter.

This is going to happen almost every year since we always have at least one Thursday night game, unless we get lucky with our bye week.

Final closing thoughts on the Miami Game...

We lost
We are 2-1 (1-1)
We play UNC next
A win and we're 3-1 (2-1)
I'm fine with 3-1 going into October

I am still stick over the game. This is my first time posting on any Tech message board since Thursday, and will probably be my last until Saturday.

If we win.

I've got to figure out a way to not live and die with every one of these games.

Speaking from experience, it comes with age. When you have more responsibility and more things going on in life you tend to get over losses easier.

Of all of the Tech losses that have crushed me over the years (considering all sports here) the one I still remember hurting the most, as well as the longest, was GT losing to UNC in basketball in 1986. Three/four days after the game it bothered me so much that I would lay in bed at night and just fret over the fact that we blew that game!

The game was played in the Omni, Tech rolled out to a 16-18 point lead in the first half, and lost it late. Mark Price had the opportunity to tie the game late with two free throws and he missed one. GT had lost to Georgetown in the Elite 8 the previous season and this was a statement game --and like so many statement games that the GT program has had over the years (in all sports) we fell short.

The team with better athletes will generally win the game, unless the other team is better prepared, more motivated, and executes well. We didn't go to Miami and do what we needed to do to overcome their talent.

It does help to get older, and to remember one great thing about competitive sports: at the end of the game, somebody is deliriously happy. It might not be you, but somebody is. And that's the fun of it.

No disrespect, but that's a sh-t diagnosis. I'm married, I have two kids and I am VP of an investment management firm in NYC. I have plenty "going on", thanks... if my load lightens, I'll be sure to report back on my personal life and its effect on my Jackets-following intensity.

I "lived and died" with every Tech game until the Thursday night VPI game where VPI scored three late touchdowns. Back then, I was living in an apartment dorm on West Campus. I walked back from the game. A VPI fan said something like "Sorry you had to lose like that," or STTE. I ignored him. When I got back to my dorm, I slammed the door shut so hard that I could see my furniture shake a little.

I'm still not all that old, but I've taking Tech losses a lot less hard since that game. While it's fun losing a game, the personal life stuff really is more important at the end of the day.

I really don't understand the whole "living and dying by how your sports team does" mentality. It is a game. It's supposed to be entertaining. Sure, I tune into every game. I even travel to see a few. Sure, I would love to see my team win every week, but when we don't I don't really agonize over it. It's a freaking game, and one I have no control over whatsoever. I agonize and fret over things that matter to me and my family and I have control over. Call me crazy or even a bad fan, I suppose....Mike

Finally the voice of reason/reality.

AMEN
