Bud Peterson had no strategic vision and at the time the ACC deal wasn’t really that terrible. It just turned out to be too long.
Drad is who screwed tech. He had an open invitation to the big ten and whimped out. Had he taken it i think we would be in a completely different world than we are.

heck we’d probably still be running the option after our back-to-back-to back Big Ten titles!

All anybody wanted to talk about back then was "who wants to go to Minnesota for a football game?" Pretty sure zero percent of folks who said that have actually been to Minneapolis - St. Paul.

I’ve been to MSP in the summer. It was fine until I got food poisoning. No interest in seeing us play a Big 10 football schedule, though.

I think you may be proving the point that nobody wants to go to Minnesota.

I will be shocked if the state of Georgia or the cesspool does anything to help us.
Unlike Virginia, who stepped to the plate for VT, our state legislature and UGA would probably actually vote to shutter GT football, given the chance.

It was stupidity to take USuCk over us back in the late 70's. UGA could have had us as an in conference game and had an extra slot for an OOC available - like Alabama and the Mississippi schools have

I don’t disagree the fan chatter was what it was. fast fwd today and we are graced with cal. Stanford. Smu. And still have bc. Pitt. Cuse. Etc. its pretty damn national and big ten ish; and crappier. And less money. Same travel.

Big error in prediction and judgement by gt. Period.

SMU was a good move. They’re going to compete and have a fan base willing to do what’s necessary. Hopefully we’ll find that we are competitive also (I think we have been and are heading in that direction). Clemson, Miami and even UNC have the opportunity also.

It’s not impossible for the ACC to survive and win. But the fan bases are going to have to provide the money until the contract can be renewed. And, importantly, the schools are going to have to be all in too.

We can be like the BIG and Sec. All we need is 5 powerful programs.

Once SMU becomes competitive, they are gone and will wave thankyou on the way out of the ACC.

The ACC can be like the B1G and SEC. All the ACC needs is major media support and the most lucrative television rights contract in college sports. Which means the ACC will never be like the B1G or SEC.
